STILL SMILING AFTER 34 YEARS
111. and with it a short message
informing us that he has been
Superintendent of schools at Mor-
ton since 1971. He has 30 years
in education behind him. He has-
n't seen a another Hellcat for a
long time but enjoys reading ab-
out them in the HCN. Wayne
concludes: Also appreciated my
copy of the 12th Armd Div hist-
ory and I've read every word and
relived a lot of experiences.
Another renewal, this one from
Ralph Erwin's wife, Trudy (Div
Arty) from Columbus, Ohio who
informs us via a note with his
dues check that Ralph has been
hospitalized twice since Novem-
ber and a bout with flu in the
meantime. He is gaining his
strength each day and they trust
he will soon feel like his usual
self. Ralph looks forward to re-
ceiving the HCN each month.
Again we all join, this time with
Trudy in wishing Ralph also a
speedy and complete recovery.
Floyd Kettler (Div Tns) also
reups for the new year. A note
tells us . . . Nothing outstanding
— Just glad we are keeping well.
Has 2 more years 'til retirement
if it is news worthy. One of their
daughters gave Floyd and the
Mrs. a weeks vacation in Hawaii
for a Christmas gift. His com-
ment: What a place to go! Their
youngest daughter enters her
Junior year at S.U.N.Y., Cort-
land. N. Y. Floyd resides in Shar-
on Springs, N. Y.
Karl and Jeanette Snyder (Div
Hq) are heard from while send-
ing in his dues. He is enjoying
the retired life of a young 68 year
old Hellcat. He would enjoy hav-
ing his old buddies call and/or
visit him when near Reading,
PA. and will give you a tour of
this Dutch Country, Pagoda,
Pretzel Factory, Outlet Centers
which people from all our sur-
rounding states love to see. He
concludes: "Welcome Gang".
Karl and Jeanette make their
home in Reading.
From Hq/Div Arty and San
Diego, CA comes membership re-
newal and booster from Ret. Col.
Charles Gildart. A note with his
renewal informs us that he and
Mrs. Gildart are living in Rancho
Bernardo which is a retirement
community in the city of San
Diego. He spent much of last
year editing a book entitled "Six-
ty Years After" published to
signalize the sixtieth reunion of
his West Point class of November
1918. (Ed. Note: God Bless . . I
was 2 months old). He continues
... I gave up golf two years ago
and have replaced it with bowl-
ing on the green, swimming and
two-mile walks. General and Mrs.
Holbrook were present at our re-
union and looking well. We have
been delighted by several calls
from Bill McWorkman, my very
efficient Div Arty Hq Btry Com-
mander, during recent months.
Col. Gildart concludes by send-
ing Warm regards to all. Also
from Div Arty, Bill Church who
renews from Somerset, N. J. in-
cludes a short note thanking our
Exec Sec George Moss for his
edition of the new roster with a
comment of a very good job. He
enjoys the Hellcat News every
month and concludes with keep
up the great work.

ers and no news from Lawrence

Tielsch (Div Hq/AG); Herman

CCB); Herbert Soanbock (Hq/
Div Arty) and Robert Boratko
and James Beauseau (572 AAA).
I congratulate all the newly
elected officers of the associa-
tion for the coming year. While
we had one of the most busiest
summers in movie history thanks
to a lot of bad weather out here
on Long Island and rash of good
films, I did manage to get away
for a few hours at a time and
get in some entertainment. I
caught the live show at Long
Island's Jones Beach Marine
Theatre. "Annie Get Your Gun"
was this summer's pttraction.
These shows are always magnifi-
cent as they are staged in an
out-door stadium on a bay where,
in addition to stationary sets,
other sets are floated on and off.
I also witnessed Pete Rose's re-
cord breaking consecutive hit at
New York's Shea Stadium on that
historic night.
On August 29th and the last day
of the California Angels visit to
New York, I got to see and visit
with Jimmie Reese (Div Hq/
SSO). I saw and talked to Jimmie
at his hotel that afternoon and
got in a few more words at
Yankee Stadium that night be-
fore the game. Jimmie looks
great and never changes. He puts
on quite a show for the people in
the left field area. Unbeknown
to the people around me that he
When association historian Clint Seitz and wife Jane cele-
brated their 34th wedding anniversary, they decided to do it
in a big way. They came to Minneapolis and observed the date
of Friday, July 21 with approximately 600 friends of the 12th
ADA. What a party!
is a friend, I hear all sorts of
favorable comments directed at
him. This particular night the
pitchers whom he conditions by
making them run hard to where
he spots the fly balls, were dar-
ing him with actions to hit it at
certain spots. Jimmie hit the
bulls eye every time and would
jokingly take his hat off and hold
it high showing these young ball
playing kids of today that he still
retains his talent for hitting fun-
goes. One of the players even
placed himself in a prone posi-
tion on the grass and Jimmie hit
him every time. Jimmie is in-
deed a magnificent sight to be-
hold doing what he did all his
life. That of being a professional
baseball player and after playing
days being associated as a coach
with a big league baseball club
such as his present team, the
California Angels.
I also got to visit with Jeep
Camarata (66 Unit Rep) while he
visited with his sister in River-
head on the Labor Day weekend.
I spoke with Jeeo and wife Betty
for some time. Jeep informs me
that his committee is already
formulating plans for the Eastern
Chapter Reunion come next April.
How about some of you Hellcats
who such as I can't make the
National Reunion due to business
pressure, etc. plan on this East-
ern reunion as part of your vac-
ation next year? I do hope that
they will hold it in the beautiful
Poconos Mountains again next
year. I found that these reunions
It's getting later than you think.
During our conversation, Jeep
dropped the names of Luke Gallo
(66 AIB) and Ernie Akaiwa (92
Recon) who practically live local-
ly in this area and hope to see
and/or contact them during his
brief stay.
Keep those dues coming. Let's
see the Division Group be the
first to get 100% renewals. Re-
member: . . . "IT'S GREAT TO
BE A HELLCAT"!
are as fun-filled and exciting as
the big one. So plan now . . .
Notes from members received
with their dues.
Division Groups — Earl Nich-
ols, CCA, "Sorry to have missed
the Reunion but the older we get
the shorter time gets, and there
is not enough to go around. Look
forward to the Hellcat News for
the old things and to the Army
Times for the new. Maybe we
can see you next year."
Art Gaddis, Spec Serv., "Mov-
ed to Ceres, Calif, in mid-June
from Santa Barbara. Have suff-
ered strokes in legs and right
arm and must use a walker.
Would like to hear from Buddies
of old."
Nick Kepf, Div/Hq, "Hope you
can use the pic enclosed. Son
Nick of Amelia, Ohio is among
the 325 VMI Cadets who have
been named to the Dean's list for
the 2nd semester of this school
year. He is a graduate of Mc-
Nicholas High School and the son
of Mr. and Mrs. Nick Kepf."
