MARCH 1958
News About
Hellcats
Heard from Kenneth A. Warnes
(Sv-714), RD 1, Box 86, Aurora,
HI., who was proud to announce
that his son, Ken Jr., will be re-
ceiving his Eagle Scout award in
February. Earning 21 merit badges
to achieve this honor entails a lot
of hard work. Ken Sr. has been
scoutmaster of this troop for the
past two years. We offer our sincere
congratulations to Ken Jr. and well
appreciate his Dad's feeling oi
pride. Ken hopes to make our
coming reunion.

M. J. Humbert (A-92), 2703 Arrow-
head ave., San Bernardino, Calif.,
dropped us a note to tell us that
John Kasat (Hq-92) died last sum
mer. Ed Adamowski (D-92) visited
with Marne Humbert when he was
vacationing in California. Ed is
from New York. Marne and his
wife have three sons and are ex-
pecting an addition to the family
momentarily. Marne is a life in-
surance agent with the Knights of
Columbus. "Well, Marne, what was
it — boy or girl?"

Here is a real nice letter received
recently from Michael J. Smith,
father of Norman Smith (C-17),
KIA March 3, 1945: "Dear Sir: I
have received the copies of (Hell-
cat News) September, October,
November. And I am thankful to
you for forwarding to me. They are
fine reading and I enjoy them very
much. I want to thank you and
especially John Finley (C-17) for
making it possible for me to receive
the Hellcat News and to become a
member of this worthy association.
I sincerely appreciate the honor of
being accepted as a member, and
many thanks for this privilege.
Sincerely yours, Michael J. Smith."

A short note from Phillip G.
Mauger (B-495), Box 6, Mt. Vernon,
Ohio, reads: "The Hellcat News is
really welcome each month. I
would appreciate hearing from any
of the fellows who were in Baker
Battery-495th." How about some of
you B-495 boys dropping Phil a few
lines?

Chester M. Bower (F-92), RD 1,
Port Treverton, Pa., has been
troubled with arthritis for the past
two years, but says he is feeling
fine right now and sends his good
wishes to all Hellcats. He gets to
see John Foose, George Perrier,
and Lt. John King, all of F-92,
once or twice a year.

Received a nice letter from Lee
Inman who was mess sergeant of
Sv-495. No wonder Jack Miller
looked so healthy when he came
out of service. Lee lives in Wil-
liams, Indiana, and has a wife,
Mary, and two sons, David, 13
and Dale, 11 years. Lee has worked
at the Naval Ammunition Depot
located at Crane, Ind., since being
discharged and is still a DAV mem-
ber in good standing. Lee says he
had a swell time in Cleveland and
is looking forward to the New York
reunion. We hope he makes it.

George W. Spicer Jr. (A-714),
45 Wellesley st., Maplewood, New
Jersey, still belongs to the New
Jersey National Guard and is a
M/Sgt in Hq & Hq Co of the 50th
Armd Ord Bn of the 50th Armd
Div. He is chief clerk in the parts
section. George now has 15 years
service. He is married and has a
wife and three sons, aged 11, 9,
and 7, and a daughter, age 3.

Richard J. Owens (Sv-494), Col-
mesneil, Texas, hopes the 494th
will have a good turn out in New
York. From the enthusiasm that
has been displayed so far we think
no one will regret making the trip
to New York in '58.

It was real nice hearing from
Louis J. Cherry (152), 311 High St.,
Johnsonburg, Pa., after all these
years. Thanks for the good wishes,
Louis.
Tennessee Cave Meeting Place Of
North Carolina and Illinois Hellcats
In recent months we have re-
ported on the unusual "by chance'
meetings of Hellcats in different
parts of the country. This month
we heard from Claude E. Perry
(B-56), Neuse, North Carolina
(shown at the right), who met
Ervin Snider of Illinois in
Tennessee cave while on a vaca-
tion a few summers ago.
You're Wrong
Yes, you're wrong if you think
that Adam Beckadic and Mrs. Bill
Johnson (both of B-714) are stand-
ing on the table in this picture
taken at the Cleveland reunion.
Bill Johnson who snapped the
picture wrote us "they are not on
the table, the other fools are
sitting on the floor."

Clayton B. Sims (152), Ettrick

wishes. He couldn't make Cleve-
land because he was attending the
Lutheran World Federation con-
tention at the time.

Bill Sparks (B-56) dropped us
card to let us know that his new
address is Box 308, APO 864, New
York, N. Y. He really likes our
Hellcat News. Bill has been em-
ployed by the U. S. Federal gov-
ernment for the past four years
working as an administrator in De-
pendent Schools. He just returned
from Morocco and is presently em-
ployed at Harmon Air Force Base,
Newfoundland. Doesn't that sound
like the Army? Morocco in the
summer and Newfoundland in the
winter!
