HELLCAT NEWS
August 2003
Sid Brickel and Carold Bland, both ofF Troop of the 92nd, at an
80th birthday party for Camld.
Dick Ruble [FJ sends congrats to Carold Bland and me on our
80th birthdays. Dick says he is 84 and still here. He got his 4-
wheel walker from the VA and now gets around better. He has
emphysema and some blocked heart valves so is on medication for
them. He says he talked to Eddie Domanoski [F] and that Eddie
is doing OK after his heart attack. Dick is looking for someone to
drive him to the next reunion in Abilene. Well, Dick, we sure hope
to see you there. Good luck.
Norm Wangen [B] says he wanted to help me receive some
mail. Thanks Norm. He says he and Joyce have moved, after 15
years of living on the shores of Lake Michigan, back to the big city
of Holland, MI. They had lived there for 35 years so they are
enjoying their return to the city.
Norm, I enjoyed your 'remembrance' and have sent it to Frank
Barndollar, our editor, with the thought that more readers might
see it. Thanks again and have a good life. But come to a reunion.
Col. Russ and Joan Ernst [HQ]: John writes that they have
been busy since the Smoky Mountain meeting, which they enjoyed
very much. They have been on the go and also grandchildren
sitting. In June they are going to Mackinac Island and Niagara
Falls. In July they plan to spend two weeks with family at the
beach. They also have plans for Hampton and that all sounds good.
Carold and Doris Bland [F] write that Carold is OK except for
his very limited activities for the next six to eight months. His
doctors say he cannot fly or drive to Hampton, VA, this year but
should be able to go to Abilene next year. Good luck to both of
you.
Keith Kenneth Knorr [A], life member 1342, has moved from
York Springs, PA, to 133 Old York Rd, Dillsburg, PA 17019-
8303.
Our president, John Critzas, reminds us that our constitution
states that among other things, we shall commemorate the
memories of our fallen comrades. We had 45 KIA in our outfit. Of
those 45 only three have been remembered in the "Walk of Honor"
in our museum. I am going to list each of these names and ask you
to think about them, and if you can give, please send $100 per
brick (you can get two names on each) to: 12th ADA Museum,
4041 Park Ave., St. Louis, MO 63110.

A couple of days ago we had the longest day of the year. It was
a pleasant 72 degrees and sunny. Today I made the excuse to
Ginny that this letter had to be finished and in the mail this week.
A good way to stay in where the temperature is 73 degrees and not
work in the yard where it is in the 90s today.
A letter from our president John Critzas reminds us that this
will probably be the last paper you receive before the Hampton
reunion. As of June 20, only 63 reservations had been received in
St. Louis. None had been received from our Hq Units. My
registration and John's letter must have crossed in the mail. What
about yours?
John also mentioned that due to ill health, Harold Schenck has
to give up his quartermaster duties. So far no one has volunteered
to take that job over. Should no one come forward before the
Hampton get-together, John will propose a solution and will
welcome your comments on this matter.
John was pleased to note that all the men from our unit that were
KIA were honored with pavers at the museum. We were lucky that
only four men from our units were KIA. The other units have a
large number and the Unit Reps are working on getting the pavers.
Received a nice letter from John Berg [CCA]. He had read the
article about John Dowling. He was concerned that Betty
Mitchell, John Dowling's niece, had received that copy of the
Hellcat News. Betty had called me right after she saw the article
and was so pleased that the men of our unit had been so thoughtful.
She just couldn't thank us enough. John Berg has been searching
for the other members of the "Twinkle Toes" crew. He would like
for any of you Hellcats living in the Tucson area to try to find out
what may have happened to Ray Badilla of 525 W 17th St.,
Tucson AZ. John's inquires to this location have been returned.
Please let John Berg know if you have any information concerning
Badilla.
John has written to Zumbroich's relative in Germany but has
had no reply at this time. My letter has not been answered either.
Lloyd DeLuca CCA] just called. He returned from an extended
trip to California last week and was catching up on the Hellcat
News. He was very interested in the articles about John Dowling
and Zumbroich. He promised he would write and fill in with some
more information that he recalled about these two men from CCA.
Lloyd gave me the bad news that he and Georgia would not be
going to Hampton this September. We will miss you at the reunion,
but am looking forward to your letter concerning the KIAs from
CCA.
Herb Luzader, left, gets a look at the collage put together by
Les Porter [66th] of articles about his squad capturing the
bridge at Dillingen. See column for details.
