VOL. V, No. 1
SEPT.-OCT. 1950
COLUMBUS
They came by bus, by train, by plane, by auto
and one fellow even hitch-hiked from Kentucky, but
they got there. They came from as far north as Min-
nesota, as far south as New Orleans, east from Bos-
ton and west from the state of Washington. The total
count was well over 200, many with their fraus, when
the registration for the Fourth Annual Hellcat Reunion
in Columbus was closed.
The opinion among the delegates was that it was
the biggest and best yet. For the record the Reunion
can be divided into two parts: the business sessions
and the entertainment. The long hours of planning
that went into the program schedule paid off in a well-
timed and fast moving two days of merry-making, -
reminiscing and future planning for "the good of the
'order."
Entertainment for the delegates and their wives was planned even down to the baby sitting detail.
For the convenience of the early arrivals, a registration desk was set up Friday evening in the Neil
House. "Hellcat" buttons were prominently displayed by the boys as they moved in small groups
through the business district adjoining the hotel; in the pubs; and the hotel bars.
However, after the first quick glance of the town, groups began to assemble in the hotel rooms,
moving from one room to another having a "short one" and rehashing the "good old days. "
These small group get-togethers in the hotel rooms seem to set the pattern for the remainderof
the free time during the Reunion.
Late Saturday afternoon the cocktail party was held in one of the hotel ball rooms. Early in the
evening the delegates, mostly in unit groups, had dinner in the restaurants and nite-clubs of the Col-
umbus area, returning to the hotel and continuing the bull sessions in the hotel rooms.
Some of the delegates took advantage of the facilities of the Benson Hough Post, VFW - one of the
largest veteran club rooms in the country.
High light of the Reunion was the annual Dinner-Dance in the grand ballroom of the Neil House.
Attendance was close to the 250 mark. There were no speeches. The new officers of the association
were introduced.
Music for the evening was by MacTooill and his band, one of the leading orchestras of the Colum-
bus area. A first class floor show by Marty Joyce attractions rounded out the evening's program.
Dancing continued until after midnight when the parties returned to the hotel rooms to continue the
festivities until the wee hours.
