If you are reading this copy
of the Hellcat News and you
have not sent in your dues yet,
then you are 'bootlegging' this
issue. For shame! So all you
delinquents when you finish
reading, get that check book
out and send in dues pronto as
you may not get a bootleg copy
next month.
Our editor, the 'Ole' Redhead
Bob Head informed us that we
had to get our column together
and meet an earlier deadline as
our printing source will be clos-
ing the shop for the final two
weeks of December in order for
our printer, John Herzog and
his staff to vacation and enjoy
the holidays. So be reminded.
Any letters or notes received in
latter November will not be
acknowledged until next
month.
A note was received from
Owsley Costlow (23 Tk Bn) in-
forming us that the Division
Group Unit Marker was in
place at Fort Knox and also
sends along a photo. He writes
.. . As you can see, it looks just
as we ordered. In conclusion,
he adds . . . It's been a real
pleasure working with you to
From all reports, Chairman
Bob Mead and his committee
are working very hard to make
the 1988 reunion outstanding,
with lots of things planned to
do and see while in Kansas
City. Let's all support Bob and
his co-workers by our attend-
ance.
My wishes for you is that you
enjoyed a very wonderful holi-
day season, and that you didn't
put on too many extra pounds.
I also wish for you and yours a
new year filled with plans, and
may these dreams be fulfilled.
Happy New Year!
honor the gallant men of the
Division Headquarters Group
and Major Commands. Thanks
for your cooperation and help.
John Melfi (Div Hq/CCB)
drops a line telling us that he
has left his Columbus, Ohio
diggings and is now in the
sunny climes of Florida where
he will remain there for the
winter playing golf and taking
life easy. He and wife Betty are
enjoying good health and hopes
we are likewise. John further
writes . . . Saw in last months
HCN that James Sedgwick is
now a member. Glad to hear it.
James and I were very good
friends. I drove him all over
Texas and Europe in my half
track, "Old Ugly". Welcome
Jim and Hi to all my buddies.
Albert Baxter, Jr. (Div Hq/
G-2) sends dues and adds . . .
It's Great To Be A Hellcat. In a
PS, he adds . . . Sorry to be
slow but medical problems con-
tinue to plague me. Even so, I
apologize for my procrastina-
tion and offer my best wishes
to all fellow Hellcat buddies.
I'm proud of my affiliation with
such a prestigious organization.
Yes, "It's Great to Be a Hel-
lcat". (Rep note: No apologies
necessary Albert. You beat the
deadline by a couple of months.)
Allen Patterson (Div Hq/
CCB) sends a letter in which
he extends thanks to our Exec
Sec for sending him a member-
ship roster that he requested to
replace a lost one. Allen attend-
ed the reunion in Louisville and
he and wife Lena had a wond-
erful time. They joined George
and Alvena Carpenter (66 AIB)
and enjoyed themselves in the
Hospitality Room. He writes . .

I have read about and heard
their names mentioned at War-
ren Maue's Little 12th Armd
Div Picnic in Germantown,
Ohio. I live 15 miles from War-
ren and have attended his pic-
nic for the last three years. I
really enjoyed the reunion.
Being a first-timer this year, I
feel that I did OK. We were
served first, was seated on the
edge of the dance floor and
could see and hear the band
without any problem. Friday
night at the Gait House, George
and Alvena Carpenter, Irving
and Ruth Fuhrer (17 AIB) and
myself and Lena square-danced
with each other and had fun. I
saw others that night from
CCA and CCB that I knew. I
