MAILBAG: Frank Barrett, 119th, and Executive Council member, writes that he is
sorry not to be able at this time to attend the convention. Frank's letter is
indeed a very interesting one and indicates the greatest of interest in his
association. He hopes to see us in '49 Idus Cleveland, 17th, tells us that
on July 17, 1948, he was married to Miss Rosemary Cooper of Bloomfield, Mo. It
seems that Idus is working hard and long hours these days and may therefore be
unable to attend this year's Convention. (See you in '49 Idus. Ed.) We are
glad to hear that Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Thomas (Family of Capt. J. F. Thomas, C.O. Sv.
Co., 23rd Tk. Bn.) will attend the Convention to renew old friendships Mr.
Thomas informs us that Ed. Loeffler, 17th, is the only Hellcat in that vicinity,
(Keokuk, Iowa) Bill Sparks, 56th, is attending Boston University studying to
become a teacher. Bill is also sorry he will be unable to attend the reunion
H. C. Vander Heyden, 82nd, has just completed his second year at Bradley Univer-
sity in Peoria, 111. Van is undertaking a course in the field of education
Rubin Adelman, 82nd, writes that he has not been receiving all his copies of the
paper. As a reminder to all,-when you fail to get an issue of the paper please
drop a card to the secretary. Also, let us know when you have a change of address.
SCHEDULE FOR CONVENTION: Originally, it had been planned to have the schedule of
activities and events for the convention published in this issue of the paper.
Word from John Cunningham, 17th, and Convention Committee member, states that he
has decided to have a separate program printed for the occasion. Speaking of the
committee: Those members who did not send in the five bucks are not prohibited from
attending. The idea of the "fin" was to bolster the saggy reserve necessary to
cover expenses required prior to the date of the convention. So if you members who
are poor but find that at the last minute can resurrect enough funds from the family
sugar bowl with which to attend, don't let the fact you failed to send in the
"fin" hold you back.
DUES FOR 1949: About the middle of October, an issue of the "Hellcat News" will be
due. John Collins will be unable to make this deadline unless all of you sit
right down NOW before you forget whether you have remitted for the coming year or
before your small fry chew up the dues notices. This ain't funny, McGee...it has
happened before and is probably a hangover from Papa's dehydrated overseas
rations. Nevertheless, and seriously, the treasury will need these funds in order
to start out this new year. The response has not been too good—less than one
eighth of the members have come through thus far with their dues. Please remit
promptly so that we can start out this new year with a bang. We wish to thank
those members who, in addition to their dues, have donated generously to the coffer
of our association. A little bit on a large scale goes a long way to help the
situation.
OCTOBER'S HELLCAT NEWS WILL DEPEND UPON YOU AND YOU! LET'S GO!
SEND IN YOUR 1949 DUES NOW.
