HELLCAT NEWS
June 1969
17th
Armored
Infantry
Battalion
Reunion time is almost here
and reservation cards have been
mailed out to all members. I sure
hope that many have been mailed
back in. Mine has, and confirma-
tion has been received. If, by any
chance, you did not receive a card
or a NASA tour card, please
write IMMEDIATELY to either
Hendricks or myself, so that some
can be mailed out before it is
too late.
Had a real nice letter from
Clair Mummert Hq. He looks for-
ward to Cleveland. Says each year
proves to be a good year and one
never knows when a long-lost un-
expected buddy will show up.
This happened for Hq. company
in Philadelphia when "good old
ex-Sgt. Irwin" appeared. Clair
says all original Hq. men should
remember him, "keeper of the
shoe strings!" He said he'd be in
Cleveland this year, so everybody
in Hq. make an effort to attend,
too!
Clair is also interested in seeing
among members in a Europe re-
union. Says it's been his dream
for some time and he'll have some
information on it in Cleveland for
anyone interested.
Clair is also interestd in seeing
an Eastern Chapter started. How
about you Eastern members? If
so, speak up in Cleveland!
Had a card from Fern and Earl
Towne B Co. To anyone interested,
he has a new address: 212 Roberts
St., Santa Cruz, Calif. 95060.
They are going to attend the West
Coast reunion in Las Vegas on
May 30.
Had a nice letter from Chuck
Galli B. Co. recently. Says he
and his wife attended the Mid-
West Chapter reunion in Joliet,
111. Said Ray Piepenbrink B. Co.
stopped by before the Mid-West
reunion to say he wouldn't be able
to attend it "this year. Chuck is
interested in news of Jack Well-
ing. Says he was from Detroit,
wrote several times to the Detroit
address he had, but never had
any answer. Anyone know Well-
ing's whereabouts?
We are pleased to welcome Joe
Gould B. Co. to the Association.
He writes that in corresponding
with some former 12th Armored
buddies, he found out that there
was an Association he could join.
It just goes to prove that it pays
to keep after old buddies till you
locate them and introduce them
to the Association.
Mil Meyers, B Co. wrote to
Harold Hendricks and asked to
have the Feb. issue of the Hellcat
sent to James Scully, B Co. and
Francis "Tom" Collins, B Co.
Said "if the picture of old Sgt.
C.R. Camp B Co. doesn't bring
them into the 12th A.D. Assn.,
then I don't know what will."
Keep up the good work, Mil!
Another letter Harold sent on
to me is from Thomas Davies.
Tom is interested in obtaining 12th
Armored Division shoulder patch-
es. If anyone knows where he
might obtain some, please con-
tact him, or if you prefer, write
Harold or me. Your help is ap-
preciated.
A note from Paul Leppo Jr. Hq.
says he is kept pretty busy with
scouting. Has been in it ever since
leaving the service and has been
Scoutmaster for the last ten years.
He is also Little League Manager
in the summer months. Paul has
a 22 year old son in college and
a daughter who is a junior in
high school.
One Sunday recently, Mack Cze-
piel B Co. and his wife stopped by
for a visit. They brought along
some real nice pictures of Sen.
Ted Kennedy visiting them at
their home. Mack plans to attend
the Cleveland reunion. This will
be his first one and he hopes
he'll see a lot of the old B Co.
gang ihere.
Do1'! forget to get your reser-
vations in right off and avoid last
minute rush and possible dis-
appointment.

Boy, are things ever slow
around here and mighty quiet too.
Just hope that everyone is keeping
quiet so they can cut loose at the
Cleveland reunion. We are keep-
ing our fingers crossed to see the
whole gang that have attended
the previous conventions and are
hoping to see many attend their
first reunion. Our attendance has
always been good so why should
this one be any different.
Feeling fine here and the back
is just mending real good. Just
want to correct Harold Hendricks,
I am going to Canada for a week
of fishing and not a month as he
stated. He keeps forgetting that
I drive a truck for a living.
The word from Elmo and Sara
Kostal up in Aliquippa, Pa. is
busy, busy, busy. Everyone is
just fine and the kids just can't
wait for June 10, when school let's
out. Wouldn't you guys know that
Elmo is really powdering that lit-
tle white pebble around. That
guy is just terrific.
Congratulations to Fred and Ev
Erichsen on the coming marriage
of their daughter Katherine. The
marriage is planned for the 25th
of May. The lucky guy is David
Galofski of Braddock, Pa. Best
of luck to both of you.
This month let's get acquainted
with Wm. E. Davis (A & Sv.
Btry). We can thank Harry Wood-
ward (Sv) for getting Bill into the
association. These two were very
good buddies in the service, in
fact they figured they would keep
it up after they got out, only this
time as brother-in-laws. Yep, Bill
married Harry's sister. Bill is 47
years young and has been busy
working for Fords' and for the
past 15 years has been employed
by the Consumers Power Co. as
a test and repairman. The Davis'
are blessed with 3 children, Gary
24, Karen 21 and Betty 12. Karen
and Gary are married and Grafid-
pa and grandma Davis are proud
grandparents of 2 boys and 3 girls.
Bill still messes with the radio
and sent me his CB card. Here's
the information on the card. The
Lamp Lighter - KBL - 3999 - Wm.
E. Davis - 10431 Cady Rd. Rt. 6 -
Jackson, Mich. 49201 - Monitor 9.
Bill, give us a buzz and let us
know if anyone got in touch with
you.
Well folks, that's about it for
now. Let's hear from you guys
and join the family of the month.
Let's get acquainted. So for now,
be good, take care and God Bless
vou all.
SEE YOU GUYS IN CLEVE-
LAND.
