Thanks for all the friendly
greetings received during the
holidays. Nothing personal but I
won't mention them by names. If
it quites snowing long enough for
me to get to the runways of the
big jet engines-I'm splitting for a
week in Clearwater, Fla. Not that
I'm a coward—but how much rice
can a Chinaman eat? This weather
is worse than eating left-overs on
Friday.
The chief has requested that we
ask you jjuys, that have prepaid
your dues that we are coming up
short—IF YOU OWE THE
ADDITIONAL $2.50 IN DUES-
no statements are going out—
PLEASE COUGH UP THE
EXTRA DOUGH. Have you seen
or are you using the "IT'S
GREAT TO BE A HELLCAT"
stickers? These are available from
ExecrSecretary—at twenty-five
for $1.00. Reach out and see your
buddies at Kankakee, 111. on
March 19, 20 and 21. The big
MIDWEST CHAPTER
MEETING. If there's a 134th
member there that looks like he
can write his name—sign him up
for the Unit Rep. opening to be.
Word was received from Opal
Steele that Arvel M. Steele—our
buddy—died on April 21, 1979.
Arvel has been honored in the
recent booklet of Members KIA
or have Passed Away since 1945.
He died of a heart attack but had
lived 12 years since his first one.
Opal has been working at Glacier
Bay Lodge in Alaska the last two
summers. She was happy to see
her cousins (Mel Meyers) pictures
with his grandson in one of the
HCN.
Charles Walls makes his annual
contribution and also we needed
those jokes, Charlie. Here's the
latest from Nut Goodie Lane and
Fudgecicle St. (Hershey, PA): "I
have had a pretty good year. Took
a trip for two weeks to New
England then in Sept. went to
Williamsburg for a week. VA is a
beautiful state in the early fall.
(Apparently Charlie has never
been in No. Dak.) Monticello, well
all one can say is that Jefferson
sure did know what it was all
about and he sure did build to
last. Talked to Jim Fitzgerald last
week. He and his family are fine.
Spent a weekend with Harry and
Peg Malcolm last month. They are
doing fine. Harry is quite busy
and very proud of his family and
he can well be in that they are
wonderful people, 7 grandchildren
and all of them charmers. I am
still doing volunteer work at the
Hershey Med Center. 350 beds &
a Med College enrollment of 284.
Very busy place—they do a lot of
research."
War Games—The lady was
unaware that she had driven into
an army maneuvers area. As she
approached a small bridge, a
sentry stopped her and said,
"Sorry, but you can't drive across
this bridge. It has just been
demolished." Leaving her dumb-
founded, for the bridge was in
perfect repair, he walked off. As
she pondered the possibility that
the sentry was insane, another
soldier approached. "Young man,"
she asked, "can you tell me why I
can't cross that bridge?" "Lady,"
he replied soberly, "I can't tell
you a thing. I've been dead for
two days."
I'm cutting this short—have to
start packing.

As the month of January rolls
to a close there isn't too much to
report from the message center.
One reason I think is the weather.
When the weather gets as bad as
it has been no one wants to write
as there must be more important
things to do. I know those of you
in the Midwest, North and North-
east have had your fill of winter.
By the time this reaches publi-
cation it should be on the warm-
side and you can remove all the
heavy clothing, dry out, and get
rid of that chilly feeling.
Here on the West coast we
faired a bit better, although we
did have some rain and then some
high winds, but nothing like the
rest of the country.
Received change of address
card from Alfred R. Shaere—new
address is—134 12th Avenue So.,
Lewiston, Mt. 59459. Please copy,
make change in Roster.
Dues but no news from OTIS E.
SANDERS plus a Booster. Thank
you Otis.
Letter from Bill Poulos. Says he
and Georgia are as well as can be
expected for "old folks." (come on
Bill, you folks are young compar-
ed to me and some others). Has
finally told me which one he is on
the photo I took in a small town in
Germany after the war ended.
That picture appeared in H.C.N.
Bill Paulos is about the only per-
son I know who came out of WWII
a private and then went up the
ranks to Colonel. Very few of us,
if any, can make that statement.
Bill is 'teed' off at Walt Verity.
When he was with Walt's crew,
Walt made him get rid of all kinds
of souvenirs he had accumulated.
He still has some negatives that
he hasn't had printed of WWII.
(Bill, don't feel bad; I too have
just come across about 30
negatives that I'll have done one
of these days.) Doesn't understand
why he hasn't received a Xmas
card from Mel Slick. First time in
30 years. (Slick, let's get on the
ball. Let's know your well att'um).
Wishes more of you buddies
would sit down for 5 minutes a
month and write a 13 cent post
card so that I would have some
input. And Bill is so o o o right.
Why don't you show me it can be
done.
Zeb met Abe after a fishing
trip. He asked Abe if he had any
luck. "Yup, I caught a 65 pound
catfish. How about you?" "No
luck," said Zeb, "But I fished out a
lantern I lost about 10 years ago
and the light was still burning."
Rubbing his chin, Abe looked at
Zeb and said, "Maybe that fish
wasn't that big after all. Ill knock
off 30 pounds Zeb, if youll blow
out the light in the lantern."
Tom Rowe says he was in
Florida and Los Angeles, in L.A.
visited with daughter .and 2
grandchildren. (Wish Tom had
gotten in touch with me.) Tom,
perhaps your daughter lives close-
by, at least you could have called
me on the phone.
At the moment I am baby-
sitting for my grandson, an easy
job. The day is very overcast and
looks like rain at any moment.
Hope all of you are getting your
dues in, let's make the Signal Co.

and "early birds." Don't forget to
attend your local "Mini Reunions"
in your area and last but not least
the big one in St. Looy on July 8
thru 12, 1982. Remember, reser-
vations must be made early as the
baseball season in on at that time
and space may be tight. Under-
stand John Critzas has really got
a terrific reunion lined up, with
lots and lots of things to do and
see. Even tried getting the Presi-
dent for that affair.
Hope all of you have a nice St.
Patrick's Day and the wearing of
the green.
The trouble with being punctual
is that no one notices when you
are.
Have waited to the very last
minute for something to come in
the mail, but nothing has happen-
ed, not even a note telling me
where to go. It's all very dis-
appointing and I might add dis-
heartening.
Have you heard about the
Plastic Surgeon? He melted away
while sitting around the fireplace.
Till next bulletin take care and
stay healthy. God bless you all.
P.S. A new Unit Rep is needed,
won't you please volunteer! After
all I don't wany anyone to think
I'm hogging the whole show. Have
been at it since 1977.
