PRESIDENT'S
REPORT
Hi! all you Hellcats and Hell-
kittens. One more month gone
by and we are rapidly approach-
ing the Chapter meetings. If
you haven't made plans it may
be too late for some. It may be;
by the time you read this the
Western chapter will be history.
Don't know what's on the
agenda but rest assured chair-
man A1 Birkenstein has made
sure you spend a memorable
week-end in Woodland Hills.
April 4, 5 is the Midwest in Fort
Wayne where I know the Worths
will do everything to assure
your enjoyment.
After the Western, Jean and I
will be in Greenville for the
Southeastern, April 11, 12 and
another grand time. The follow-
ing week-end is the North Cen-
tral in Wassau, Wisconsin, April
18, 19, where they are planning
a gala affair. Then last, but not
least the Eastern in Harrisburg,
PA. May 2, 3. Jean and I are
looking forward to the Eastern
as this gives us a chance to
visit family and friends in
Easton, PA, and Phillipsburg,
NY. Thats it for the chapters
'til the Lake Erie chapter in
November.
Haven't heard what Bob
Head has in store for us at Long
Beach but am sure it will be a
dandy. Don't forget the door
prizes for the chapter meetings,
and be there. I know the dates
and places are well advertised
in the HCN but want as many
as possible to attend at least
one. Don't think "well I'll do it
next year." It may be too late
then.
Charles Mehle (152nd) has
declined the appointment to the
nominating committee. I have
appointed Marvel Rowland
(56th) in his place and he has
accepted.
You have received the broch-
ure on our new history book in
the Feb. issue of the HCN. This
is your chance to get your name
and story in our history book.
Get busy and do it now, and
while you are at it fill out the
order blank for the book. Once
it is printed there won't be any
more.
I had authorized a mail ballot
to the executive council officers
for an increase in the yearly
dues to $10.00. The majority
favored it, so Jan. 1987 dues
will be increased to $10.00. Also

Fort Wayne, IN 46825
This is our last chance to talk
with you about the upcoming
Chapter Meeting in Fort
Wayne, under the guidance of
our Chairman Art Worth and
his lively wife Leona. Assisting
them are Bob and Jo Fudge
(714th), Gerald and Eunice
Bright (134th), and Ted and Flo
Putman (134th). All are working
together to assure you a wonder-
ful time.
The Sheraton Inn has a fine
restaurant and there are many
other restaurants in the area.
Glenbrook Mall is close to the
reunion area in case any of the
Hellkittens should decide to
brouse around while they are
there. Transportation to the
mall is furnished by the hotel.
Refer to the map in this issue
and cut it out to guide you when
you arrive. The Sheraton Inn is
located close to 1-69, which is
the Interstate most of you will
use to get to Fort Wayne.
Come early on Friday for
fellowship with your buddies.
Our hospitality room will be
open when you return from
dinner at the restaurant of your
choice.
Saturday is the big day! Regis-
tration all day in the hospitality
room, and lunch served at noon.
Saturday night will bring cock-
tails and the banquet, followed
by dancing with the Dick Seeger
band, a well known group in
Fort Wayne.
And, don't forget to bring
door prizes. And, if you don't be
sure to bring yourself and your
Hellkitten. Get your reservation
in, if you have not already done
so. We're expecting a big turn-
out. See you in Fort Wayne.
a mail ballot for free member-
ship for the period July 1, 1986
to Dec. 31, 1986 was approved.
A Letter from John McNaull,
2nd Vice President informing
me of his endeavor on possible
reunion sites for 1988. Roches-
ter, NY, Hartford, CT, Minn-
eapolis, MN, and Kansas City
are being looked at.
See you all next month. IT'S
GREAT TO BE A HELLCAT!

ed the following article to depict
the trials and tribulations of
the wives of GI's while their
husbands were in training.
Their contributions are of times
overlooked as we recollect our
own experiences as Hellcats. Per-
haps, after reading this article,
many of the other Hellkittens

LET'S HEAR IT FOR
THE GIRLS!
She's only 18 and she stands
all night in the aisle of the
unheated train, on a Friday,
heading from snowy, cold down-
town Chicago to Hopkinsville,
Kentucky, after working all day
in an office of a defense plant.
Breakfast was a fast cup of
coffee; lunch a Hershey bar;
there would be no supper.
Soldiers and sailors crowd the
cars. Daylight, and the train
pulls into the tiny station. Car-
rying her own luggage, she
makes her way to the hard
wooden benches and waits.
Soon he can be seen approach-
ing in his khaki uniform, hat
tipped over one eye. It was
worth the long trip! The Hop-
kinsville Hotel - no one greets
you, no one smiles - everyone is
