A large number of farmers ir.<>
the Gaines County Soil Conserva-
tion District have planted alfalfa
this fall. This is beneficial to the
soil as well as providing feed that
is needed badly at this time.
There has also been a sizeable
acreage of cover crops such as
wheat and rye planted.
Recent rains will help these
crops provide cover and grazing
during, the winter months. A two
fold benefit will be provided for
the soil in that blowing will be
held down and organic matter
added. Some of the District co-
operators that have planted these
crops are Lloyd Johnson, L. E.
Robinson, Berl Ancell, J. H.
Thames, T. B. Fulkerson, Guy
McGill, J. M. Boardman, R. j.
Boardman and Mrs. Carrie Shu-
make.
