Shortage of Cotton Pickers
Delays Harve«t In I.ami) County
With most gins in Lamb court
ty ready for the fall cotton har
vest ginning has been unable
to get into full production be
cause of a serious shortage of
cotton pullers, J. D. Jordan, of-
fice manager of the Texas Em-
ployment Commission announc-
ed this week.
Jordan said that a need for
at least 5,000 pickers now exists
in this county, and about 2,000
hands are now in the fields.
Cotton is producing heavily
in this county, particularly above
the sandhills in irrigated land,
but gins have averaged less than
100 bales ihus far on the season

Huntsvllle—Oct. 6 — The boys

COUNTY AGENT TO BE
EMPLOYED BY GAINES CO.
Petitions bearing signatures of
several hundred names were pre-
sented to the Gaines County
Commissioners Court at their
regular meeting on Monday of
this week asking that they em-
ploy a county agent.
On account of the county's fi-
nancial condition our commission-
ers have hesitated to take this
action and they only upon being
petitioned very strongly to do
so which shows that they are
making an honest effort to put
the county's finances in a better
condition.
