Eisenhower has signed a bill au-
thorizing construction of the Coop-
er dam and reservoir on the South
Sulphur River in Texas.

Surprise Party Honors
John H. Simmons
A surprise birthday party was
given 'Thursday, Aug. 4, at 8 p. m
for John H. Simmons at his home
east of tiswp. Games were play-
ed after which refreshments of
cake and cold drinks were serv-
ed. Norma Jean Simmons, niece
of Mr. Simmons, made the ct^ke.

Sisterson, held at-First Christian
Church of McKinney, Sunday
afternoon. The late Rev. Sister-
son was a former pastor of First
Christian Church here and had

Church the past seven years.
Santa Fe Awards
Mrs. Sixie Davis
For her alertness in warning
Santa Fe emj^oyees that an ab-
andoned jetrplane had crashed
into and destroyed a section of
the Railway's trackage; near
Hovey, Texas, on June 1, Mrs.
Sixie McGill Davis of Alpine was
rewarded recently with a check
for $100.
The. award was presented to
her at her ho#e by Santa Fe
Superintendent W. A. J. Carter.
In presenting the check to Mrs.
Davis for her prompt action in
reporting the accident, Supt. Car-
ter quoted ^ message to the
young lady from President Fred
G. Gurley of the Santa Fe, as
follows: —-—1
"Your alertness in warning
employees that an abandoned jet
pl&fce crashed into and destroyed
a portion of our traak near
Hovey, Texas, the afternoon of
June 1, has earned the deepest
appreciation for the life and
property of others, seemingly in
jeopardy, prompted you to drive
a ' distance of 27 miles to Alpine
where the accident was reported
to our people. This warning en-
abled them to go to the scene and
to t protect against any possible
mishap to the freight train which
operates* over that district. For
This we are grateful and it pleas-
es us g rffor the check for $100
• in token of your thoughtful
dped."
