Like the Aga Kaltn, Marilyn
Monroe was worth her weight in
diamonds when she sang "Dia-
mond- Are ii (iirl's Best Friend,"
her big song and dance number
in "(lentlemen Prefer Blondes,"
to he seen Sunday ami Monday
at the A/.tec. Director Howard
Hawks insisted that the gems
worn by Mi-- Monroe in the
number should be real, so Twen-
tieth Century-Fox gathered dia-
mond- of all shapes and weights
from New York, Chicago, San
Francisco and I.os Angeles for
th" shapely blonde to wear. The
value of the stones was estimated
to he over two million dollars.
Jane Russell, who cii tars with
Miss Monroe in the Technicolor
picture, also wore some of the
diamonds when she impersonated
Marilyn singing the "Diamonds
Are a Girl's Best Friend" num-
ber.
