J. E. Rainer came in from

It is a duty of ever man with
a family to own in fee simple a
piece of ground, with a habita-
tion and the necessary conven-
iences of a home. There can
be no such thing as satisfactory
independence under another
man's roof, and children nurt-
ured under such conditions

secure a home, and make ever-
tiling subservient to that one
object until it is attained. La-
bor, privation, self denial, are
sweet when assumed for a nob-
le purpose of securing a home,
but sweeter still is the content-
ment that follows success.—

It is a remarkable fact,
worthy of every parents con-
sideration, that those children
who are most often out of
school and are allowed the
liberty of the streets are large-
ly the children who form the
criminal classes when they g: ovv
up. Statistics show that an
uneducated boy is twentyseven
times as liable to fall into crim-
inal acts as an educated boy is
and an uneducated girl is fifty-
six times as liable to form
criminal habits as an educated
girl is. Is it any wonder that
the State demands that the
children should be kept in tile
schools. It must do it as a
matter of self-protection.—
