12 ADMISSION
INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
All international students, except those
who are permanent U.S. residents or who
have immigrant status, must submit the
following information before full consideration
for admission will be given:
1. An official application.
2. Payment of a $25.00 application fee
(non-refundable).
3. Official transcripts of all academic
work attempted.
4. Two personal references.
5. A notarized statement from family or
sponsor indicating ability and willingness
to assume all financial responsibilities
while in the United
States, including official bank statements
and/or other requested substantiation
of available resources.
6. Current health forms, including
certification of D/T and Mantoux test.
7. Housing Agreement with appropriate
deposit. See p. 19.
8. Satisfactory score of 550 on the
TOEFL.
9. Each international student entering
HSU will post a one thousand dollar
(US $1000) deposit with the Office
of Financial Affairs. This deposit can
only be utilized toward payment of
the student's final semester's expenses,
and will not be released at
an earlier date. International students
will not be admissable until the deposit
is recorded on the University
ledgers, and no Form 1-20AB will be
issued beforehand.
METHODS OF ADMISSION
Individuals may gain admittance to
Hardin-Simmons University by one of the
following methods:
High School Graduation
High school graduates who have earned
a minimum of sixteen units are eligible to
be considered for regular admission.
Of the sixteen units required for admission,
the following are prescribed:
English* ......................... ............. 3 units
M athem atics**....................................2 units
Social Science ..................................2 units
S cience ..............................................2 units
E lectives ..............................................7 units*Requires English I, II, and 111. Other courses,
including Correlated Language Arts and
courses from other subject areas, are not
acceptable.
**Requires courses at the level of Algebra I
and above. Consumer mathematics, prealgebra,
informal geometry, and fundamentals
of mathematics are not acceptable.
The elective units may be chosen from
the list of subjects accepted by the Texas
Education Agency. No more than three
vocational units may be submitted.
Applicants will be evaluated and assigned
an admission status based upon
their class standing and/or their ACT or
SAT scores as follows:
Full Admission
High school graduates with a C average
or better who present composite
scores of at least 19 on the Enhanced
ACT (16 on the old ACT) or 860 on the
SAT are granted full admission. Those
graduating from an accredited high school
in the upper half of their graduating class
are granted full admission upon presentation
of composite scores of at least
18 on the Enhanced ACT or 810 on the
SAT.
Admission on Limited Load
High School graduates with a C average
or better who present composite
scores of at least 18 on the Enhanced
ACT (14 on the old ACT) or 810 on the
SAT may be granted admission for a limited
load (no more than 14 semester hours
of course work during the first semester).
Those graduating from an accredited
high school in the upper half of their
graduating class are admitted on limited
load upon presentation of composite scores
of at least 17 on the Enhanced ACT or
760 on the SAT.
High School Equivalency Examination
(G.E.D.)
If an applicant is a veteran, or is seventeen
years of age and has not been enrolled
in an accredited high school for
one academic year, he/she may substitute
satisfactory scores (45 or better,
ordinarily) on the General Education Development
Test (G.E.D.) for graduation
from an accredited high school. They must
also submit satisfactory scores on the
ACT or the SAT.
