5333 Pedagogy of Theory
A study and organization of methods and materials for teaching
music theory.
Prerequisite: Consent of Instructor.
6231, 6232 Individual Projects in Musical Analysis
Comparative analysis of special compositions in all forms.
Prerequisite: Consent of Instructor.
6233, 6234 Advanced Composition
Practical composition in larger forms including rondo, sonatina,
fugue, passacaglia, and theme and variations.
Prerequisite: Theory 6231 and 6232 or equivalent.
6235 Advanced Counterpoint
The application of counterpoint to larger forms of musical composition.
Extensive study of and experimentation with twentieth
century techniques.
Prerequisite: Theory 3233 and 3234 or equivalent.
6236 Advanced Orchestration
Application of the larger forms through actual composition to be
orchestrated for string ensembles, brass groups, woodwind
groups, full orchestra, or symphonic band.
Perequisite: Theory 4232 and 4234 or equivalent.
6337, 6338 Thesis
EXTENSION SERVICES
It is the function of the Office of Extension Services to make available a
limited number of courses to those who wish to pursue off-campus studies.
Two types of services are offered to meet these needs:
(1) Extension service. Hardin-Simmons University offers services to
public school teachers through extension classes and in-service education
programs in a limited number of off-campus centers. Individuals,
groups, or school systems interested in an extension class in
their community should contact the Director of Extensiorr Services,
Box 984, Hardin-Simmons University, Abilene, Texas 79601. An
attempt will be made to provide classes in instances where there are
fifteen or more individuals interested in a common course.63
