the fourth Kupferle will enter as
a freshman. At commencement ex-
ercises Augtist 25, Rev. N. H. Kup-
ferle (pronounced CUP fer lee)
will address this summer grad-
uates at the college where not only
he and his wife, but also his moth-
er and grandmother graduated.
However, Rev. Kupferle's ad-
dress to the seventy-eight summer
graduates will only be one high-
light of the program since both
he and Rev. Jack Payne, pastor
of the First Church of Arlington,
will be receiving the Doctor of
Divinity degree. "It is a very great
hqpor for me to receive this de-
gree," comments Rev. Kupferle,
"especially from a school that has
meant so much to me and my fam-
ily. I don't believe there could be
any greater honor for a pastor and
his family."
Rev. Kupferle is present pastor
of Matthews Memorial Methodist
Church, where he has been serving
for three years, and is previous
pastor of the First Methodist
Church in Corsicana, where he
served for two years. "While at
TWC, I was president of my Fresh-
man class, recipient of the Golden
Shears, and active in ministerial
organizations and chorus," said
Rev. Kupferle. After receiving his
BS from TWC in 1943, he attended
Perkins School of Theology where
he graduated in 1946.
Rev. Kupferle is the 1967 recipi-
ent of the Texas Methodist Col-
lege Citation which is given each
year to the church raising the
most money in the conference
toward higher education. He is also
serving on the Commission on
World Service and'i* a member of
the Board of Trustees and Building
Committee at Harris Hospital.
The second recipient of the Doc-
tor of Divinity Degree at the com-
mencement exercises, Rev. Jack
Payne, is also a TWC graduate.
Rev. Payne received his BA and
BS from TWC in 1947 and his
Bachelor of Divinity from Perkins
School of Theology in 1950. He has
been president of the TWC Alumni
Association and chairman of the
Alumni Finance Committee. He is
the present chaplain of the Moslah
Shrine Temple. He has served as
US Navy Reserve Chaplain since
1951 and has been on the board of
directors of the Wesley founda-
tions at TCU. University of Texas
at Arlington, Baylor University,
and tarleton State College.
Mr. Payne was an official dele-
gate to the World Methodist Con-
ference in London last year. He
