considered sufficient for graduate work in these fields additional
courses shall be prescribed until such deficiency is made up.
QUANTITY OF WORK PRESCRIBED-The work for the degree
shall cover at least thirty semester hours, 18 of which, including
the thesis, shall be in the major field. The thesis shall count for
not less than 3 semester hours nor more than 6 semester hours.
An average grade of B-plus must be made on all courses taken
and a grade of less than B on any course taken shall not be accepted
for graduate standing.
RESIDENT REQUIREMENT-Candidates for the degree of Master
of Arts shall complete at least two semesters work in residence and
will generally find it necessary to spend a longer period of time
in order to complete all requirements. Correspondence or conference
shall not be counted as graduate work.
ORAL EXAMINATIONS-An oral examination of one hour's duration
covering the field of the major and minor courses taken
for the degree of Master of Arts, under the supervision of the
professors under whom the work is taken, is required of all candidates
before the degree may be conferred. The time for this
examination shall be near the close of the semester immediately
preceding graduation.
THE THESIS-A thesis is required of all candidates, the subject,
scope, and treatment of which must be approved by the department
concerned. The subject of the thesis must be filed with
the Chairman of the Graduate Committee not later than the second
Monday in January of the year in which the degree is sought,
or the third Monday in March where graduation is to be in
August. Two bound copies, either typewritten or printed, shall
be presented to the Chairman of the Graduate Committee to be
deposited in the University Library, not later than one month
before the date of graduation. The professor in charge of the
major courses and the Graduate Committee shall determine the
credit to be assigned to the thesis in the evaluation of the major
subjects.
MISCELLANEOUS REGULATIONS
Any student taking work in the Fine Arts Department will not
be allowed more than twelve hours university work without special
permission from the Dean.
In order to be permitted to take more than fifteen hours work,
a student must have made an average grade of B in all of his24
