BOTANY
(Not Offered 1934-1935.)
113, 123. (Formerly 113, 123). General Botany. The first semester's
work will deal with the structure of stem, root, flower,
and seed. The second semester's work will treat of physiological
processes: nutrition, growth, irritability, respiration, and reproduction.213. (Formerly 133). Local Flora. A study of the characteristics
of the plant families of West Texas, and practice in identifying
the species. Pre-requisites, Botany 113, 123.
223. (Formerly 145). Cryptogamic Botany. A study of the
simple plants of this region, supplemented with some from other
regions. Pre-requisites, Botany 113 and 123.
313. (Formerly 315). Plant Genetics. This course deals with
heredity and variation in relation to agriculture, and a consideration
of methods of hybrMization. Pre-requisites 113 and 123.
ZOOLOGY AND HYGIENE
MR. ARNETTE
113, 123. (Formerly 113, 123, 133). Principles of Animal
Biology. The aim of this course is to give a general view of the
principles of animal biology; to introduce laboratory methods of
dissection; and to familiarize the student with the use of the
microscope. Two lecture hours and four laboratory hours. A
complete schedule is given below.
213, 223. (Formerly 305, 315). Invertebrate and Vertebrate
Zoology. A general view of the anatomy, physiology, adaptation,
and economic importance of invertebrate and vertebrate
animals. Pre-requisites 113 and 123. Two lecture periods and
four hours laboratory. Schedule given below.
303. (Formerly 435). The Teaching of Biology in High Schools.
This course consists of values and methods of biological study.
Recommended to those who major and minor in biology, especially
to students who contemplate the teaching of biology. Prerequisites,
a minor in biology. Given alternately with 423. Lecture
two hours and four hours laboratory. Schedule given below.
