HIGHWAY 180 E 325-7878
Reappointed for two -year
terms were Jakie Long and
John Garland whose one
-year terms on the
five-member board
appointed last year had
expired.
Commissioners also agreed
to consider additional
insurance coverage for
emergency medical
technicians (EMTs) manning
the service. While the county
currently provides
insurance for the vehicle, the
EMTs, who often travel by
private vehicle to an
emergency scene, are not
covered.
In a brief report on the 20
months of operation of the
ambulance service,
spokesman Aubrey Worsham
told commissioners the cost
to the county for
maintenance and insurance
has been $1,028.97. The
service has spent about
$6,100 additionally for gas
and oil, parts and equipment,
emergency equipment, phone
bills and EMT schooling.
Worsham said the
ambulance has made 157 runs
in the 20 months, and said
1,375 EMT hours have been
accumulated as well as 100
hours of training.
He added the current
vehicle is in fairly good shape
with 68,000 miles, but he
said the service may approach
commissioners in the future
for help in obtaining a larger
ambulance.
In other action,
commissioners approved a bid
of $14,300 from W.T.
Ramsey for concreting the
jail parking lot, and approved
payment of attorneys fees of
$3,810 to former county
attorney Bill Pratt for
handling two cases for the
county in federal court and in
29th District Court here.
The federal case was filed
by Melvin Hood, a Palo Pinto
County jail inmate, who
alleged former sheriff Bill
Harris had broken his jaw
following his escape and
subsequent capture. The jury
found in favor of Harris in
that case.
The second case involved a
damage suit filed against the
county, former deputy sheriff
Kenneth Ray Kinder and
Harris by the family of a
youth killed in an accidental
shooting by Kinder, in June
1975. That suit was recently
settle;out of court.
Commissioners also
approved renewal of a two -
year contract with Gates
Steel and Associates of
Austin to collect delinquent
taxes in the county. County
Tax Assessor - Collector John
Winters said the firm has
collected $128,00 to date for
the county. The firm receives
15 percent of its collections
as reimbursement for its
services.

attack last week. Graveside
services were held Friday
afternoon at 4 o'clock at

Wilsons were residents of this
community quite a few years
ago.
We also express our
sympathy to the family of
Mrs. Ocie Williams. She
passed away early this week.
The Williams were also
residents of this community a
number of years ago.
