Birthday Sunday
Although Mrs J D It Bass of
Plainvlew observed her 05th blrth
day Sunday she does not live In
the past but is thinking ahead
to next week next month and
leven next year Her mother lived
to be almost 101 so why shouldnt

The whole household at the
home of C S Bass In Plainvlew
revolves around his mother She
enjoys people daily events and
jokes
Wars are nothing new to Mrs
Bass as this is her fifth Her
father L A Carpenter was fighting
In the war with Mexico when
she was born Feb 1 11117 near
Canton Ga She was a young
lady during the Civil War a mother
at the time of the Spanish
American War a grandmother
during World War I and a great
grandmother during the current
conflict
Mrs Bass is a pioneer Plainswoman
having moved to Swisher
County in July 1000 She used
to come 30 miles by hack to the
First Baptist church in Plainvlew
Her husband who died eight years
ago is burled at Tulia
The family sees that Mrs Bass
is kept abreast of the times supplementing
what she gets by radio
and by reading the headlines
of the dally papers She doesnt
go to church anymore except by
radio She usually gets up at
sunrise goes to bed at sunset
and rests very little in between
Although there was no celebration
planned in honor of her
birthday her children who lived
near enough and many friends
dropped in to call That was the
way she wauled it
