The following interesting letter
was written by a soldier from
Crosby County written to his
parents from somewhere in Africa
I
Wc had a pretty bad sandstorm
here today They are difi
fcrent from the ones wc have at I
home The dust Is real fine and
you can hardly breathe for it It
calmed down a little bit afternoon
and is real calm now It
still hasnt rained yet but sprinkles
a bit every day If t would
come about an Inch of rain I
dont think the dust would be so
bad anymore for a while
I sure do miss my motorcyclc
it just seems like I have last one
of my best friends or something
I was always tinkering when I
wasnt on duty I guess it was
best for us to get rid of them
though because bad weather sets
in before long and wc couldnt
have ridden them anyway
The mosquitoes nave been pretty
bad around here lately in fact
I am slapping at them now Wc
have mosquito bars over out
bunks but sometime they crawl
in under some way or other I
woke up the other morning and
there were two big ones under
the bar with me and their bites
on my arms
I was just noticing yesterday i
how native girls around here
dress I think it will interest you I
They wear vales of several different
colors wrapped around them 1
The best I can tell it is just put
together kind of like a crazy
quilt with orange being the outstanding
color with red coming
in second I just dont hardly sec
how they get around with them
on in fact some of them do have
a little trouble Their face if
you are lucky to see it is all
marked up with some kind of ink
and several scars on each cheek

rings in their noses which extend
