Texas Warcrop
Goals Exceeded
Except Peanuts
All warcrop goals with the exception
of peanuts hnvc been
pledged by Texas farmers under
the 1943 Food for Freedom program
B F Vance chairman
state USDA War Board said this
week
Based on reports from 329700
farm plan sheets representing 83
percent of Texas farms and 87 percent
of all cropland principal
wracrops which will bo exceeded
are grain sorghums soybeans
Irish potatoes sweet potatoes and
SxP cotton
The remaining 12 percent of
our farms and 13 percent of our
Producers In the soybean area
indicate they will plant 84000
lacres compared to a state goal
of 75000 acres
The grand total of all warcrops
according to the intended acre
age on farm plan sheets is 7837
100 acres compared to the total
Iwarcrop goal of G792000 acres
the minimum established under
the 1943 production program The
acreage contracted for processing
lis not included in the grand to
Irangeland from 19 Panhandle
fcounties
Other warcrop goals and intend
ed acreages according to th farm
fplan sheets are as follows Irish
ipotato goal 19300 acres intend
flfd acres 42400 sweet potato goal
15000 acres intended acres 104
> tk0 SxP cotton goal 19800 acres
intended acres 21880 and castor
beans 2000 acres intended acres
2425
The intended planting of 38500
acres of flax and 22100 acres of
dry edible beans automatically

commodities since previous goals
Were not established Vance said

all such danger can be avoided
by boiling the canned vegetables

they should be reboiled before

to the next third a pressure

farm plan sheets which have been

acres
The intended acreage for grain
sorghums this year aggregates
0340000 acres or 377000 acres
more than the state goal of 5903
000 acres the chairman pointed
out and added that farmers were
beng urged to plant all the acreage
they could to feed grains because
of the livestockfeed situation
in which the numbers of
livestock are increasing faster
than the production of feed grains
possible and kept boiling stead

caps with glass top seal or with
twopiece vacuum seal caps Glass
top seal closures and vacuum caps
seal on the top edge of the jar
therefore it is necessary to make
sure the top edges of the jars
are even smooth and perfect in
every rscpect The bands arc
screwed down tight on the vacuum
seals as soon as the jars are filled
to within from one to one
half inch of the top and should
not be tightened again Zinc caps
are screwed down on the rubber
and then loosened slightly Bands
for glass top seals are screwed
down and then loosened This
tightening and loosening is called
partly scaling and should always
be done before jars are placed in
a canner Seals are completed by
tal figures neither arc perennial tightening caps or bands immedi
ihay crops noncrop pasture and

Then there is the jar with a
Klass lid and rubber ring held in
place with wires it is ideal for
canning especially when fitted
with hightension stretchproof
steel wire It is partly scaled before
and completely scrled after
processing
Those who select vegetables
