KITTEN CREW RISKS WIN SKEIN
AGAINST GOOD WHARTON TEAM
Junior High Romps Over Lamar, 39-0,
Completing 13 Of 15 Aerials T ried
The Bay City Junior High School
Kittens will travel to Wharton to-
night to lay their undefeated sea-
son record up against the once
beaten Wharton Junior High.
Only team to beat Wharton was
Edna. The junior high Cowpokes
also were the only team to cross
Bay City's goal line this season.
Wharton has beaten Lamar Con-
solidated, 18-12; Boling, 12-7; El
Campo, 12-7, and the Edna score
was 14-6.
Counting Bay City's 39-0, vic-
tory over Lamar Consolidated last
week, the Kittens have racked up
an individual game average of 43
points as opposed to their op-
ponents' one and one-fourth points.
The- Bay City crew will be try-

The Kittens' opponents love those
radical double reverses and can be
expected to make the affair a good
game. The Kitten band will make
the trip to cheer on their team.
You can figure on seeing a lot
of pigskin 'flying through the air
on both sides. The Kittens threw
15 passes in the Lamar Consoli
dated game and completed 13.
Quarterback Marvin Kristynik
tossed six anu completed five, four
for touchdowns. Catching the T.

Holloway, End Claude Reinke, and
Halfback Rudy Mendiola.
Holloway blockbusted over for
another tally, and alternating
Quarterback Richard Starnes
scored one off the singlewing on a

Holloway ran one extra pointt
and Starnes ran another and con-

Good blocking was provided by
Eric Rooth and Richard Morgan.

PANTHERS WILL FACE BAYTOWN
IN BATTLE OF GIANTS SATURDAY
Teams Undefeated In Six Tilts;
Hilliard Crushes Gonzales, 33-7
Hilliard and Baytown, two un-
defeated, untied teams, will clash
in Baytown 8 o'clock Saturday
night in a game of state-wide in-
terest.
Both elevens have won six
straight games this season and
Baytown is unscored on.
In the game that Hilliard Coach
Joe Washington scouted, Baytown
beat Jasper 52-0. The coach de-
scribed the Panthers' opponents as
one of the best rounded teams in
this area. "They could beat many
AAA teams," he said.
Hilliard is going to take to the
airlanes in an effort to pull a win
out of the hat. They will work out
of a spread with the fleet-footed
Sam Clark at fullback.
Clark got three touchdowns in

zales last week. Score was 33-7.
Aching Leopards
Try Bulldogs
In Hitchcock
An injury-riddled Van Vleck
team will take to the field Friday
in Hitchcock in an effort to stop
the Bulldogs.
Hitchcock was shut-out by Dis-
trict 31-B leading Sugar Land last
week, and the Leopards were
beaten by Danbury, 25-6.
Van Vleck's 200-pound tackle,
Charles Dacke, was cleated in the
game. RighJ Half John Barnard
has a cut lip. Lloyd Hendershot,
the fullback, has a shoulder in-
jury, and Left End Melvin Joyce
has a hurt arm.
Coach Troy Monk thinks these
men will be ready to go by game
time but says Hendershot will
have to be ueod sparingly.
In the Danbury game last week,
Barnard picked up the tally for
Van Vleck to conclude a 60-yard
drive.

BLACK CATS,
BIRDS PICKED
BAY CITY-ALVIN—We thought
the Black Cats performed very
well against the St. Thomas team
last week and, with a few breaks
and less injuries, we would have
taken the Toms into camp. The
Black Cats should jump into high
again this week and notch their
first District 12-AAA game. The
play is for keeps now, lads! Gig
'em, Black Cats!
EL CAMPO - LAMARQUE —
There's no question but that Paul
Gips has fashioned a powerful
gridiron unit over El Campo way
and beefy but bumling LaMarque
will prove no stumbling block. La-
Marque's victory over Lamar Con-
solidated raised a few eye brows,
however. But it's still El Campo,
undoubtedly one of the best AAA
teams in the state.
TIDEHAVEN-SUGAR LAND—
The big one in 31-B with the win-
ner a virtual cinch to be champion.
We're p-u-l-l-i-n-g hard for those
gallant Tigers of Tidehaven to win
and we believe they will! Sack 'em
.r.i, Tigers!
VAN VLECK-HITCHCOCK —
Football observers say Van Vleck
will take their lumps again in thia
one and it sure looks like it. May-
be our Leopards can brew up a
big upset! Come on, you Leopards,
let's show 'em!
WEST COLUMBIA-SWEENY—
And this is the big one in District
25-AA with the winner the title
favorite. To be played in Sweeny,
we'll take the Roughnecks of West
Columbia behind the fakery o'f
Quarterback G. T. Jones and the
nimble, swift running of Jimmy
Parhurst* Ebby Neptune is
Sweeny's big gun—and a fine back
he is too. This will be l'-e-a-l grid
entertainment!
BOLING-EDNA —Though Bol-
ing is favored we feel Edna may
win. But our feeling is not strong
enough to make that prediction.
So—it's Boling's Bulldogs!
PALACIOS - WHARTON — Our
best wishes are with Palacios, but
if Wharton's Raymond Davidson is
in shape the result may go the
other way. Though the Tigers are
favored—rack 'em up, Sharks!
TYLER JUNIOR COLLEGE-
WHARTON JUNIOR COLLEGE—
A big attraction up Wharton way
tonight (Thursday) with the
Apaches getting our nod.
BAY CITY JUNIOR HIGH-
WHARTON JUNIOR HIGH —
Coach Fred Goeke's Kittens are
our solid choice! Go get 'em, Kit-
tens!
BAY CITY "B"-ALVIN "B"—
And here we like the Bay City "B"
team.' Tear 'em up, Black Cats!
We'll see you out at Memorial Sta-
dium tonight (Thursday).
ARKANSAS-TEXAS A. & M.—
The boys who slip the cards out
from behind the counter are taking
the Aggies but we look for a big
upset here with the Razorbacks
from Arkansas winning. Put that
in your hat!
T. C. U.-BAYLOR — Another
whale of a game in the South-
western Conference with the Frogs
our pick to come back a'fter two
successive defeats. But it'll be
close, maybe by one point!
S.M.U.-TEXAS—No doubt about
it—those Mustangs will rip hap-
less Texas to death. Many Texas
Corrine Collins, Miss Joyce Walle,
Miss Paula MtCullough, Miss
Helen de los Santos, Miss Pat
Shaw.
Miss Connie Lankard, Miss Sal-
lie Milner, Miss Diane Fults, Miss
Lola Estlinbaum, Miss Jo Ann Ko-
var, Miss Betty Doughtery, Miss
Elizabeth Dickey, and Miss Doris
Miller.
Coaches Named
Coaches this year are Miss Bon-
nie Southwell and Miss Mattie Sue
Ringgold.
Miss Southwell is a graduate of
the University of Texas and has
taught at San Marcos Academy.
She was graduated with a major
in physical education.
Miss Ringgold was graduated
from Sam Houston State Teachers
College and also had a major in
physical education. She has taught
at Aldine High School.
In addition to the Van Vlcclc
game Thursday, the Bay City girls
will play Brazosport here Tuesday
night.
Remainder of the schedule:
November 8, Brazosport at Bra-
zosport; November 13, Ganado at
Ganado; November 15, Ganado at
Bay City; November 20, Tidehaven
at Tidehaven; November 27, Tide-

VAN VLECK OUT TO BETTER CARD
AGAINST HITCHCOCK THERE FRIDAY
Many Bay City Fans Will Attend
Clash Of West Columbia, Sweeny
It's do or die for the Tidehaven Tigers in Sugar Land
Friday night.
The winner of this game will become undisputed favorite
to take the championship of District 31-B. Both teams have
two wins in loop play. Tidehaven beat Friendswood, 40-7,
last week and Sugar Land blanked Hitchcock, 30-0.
Van Vleck will be trying to better its .500 percentage of
one won and one lost at Hitchcock
Fumbles Kill
Cats' Chances
To Beat Toms
The Eay City Black Cats played
their hardest-hitting game of the
season Friday night but still came
out on the short end of a 7-6 score.
Fumbles ruined Bay City's
chances for an upset as one bobble
gave the ball to St. Thomas after
the Black Cats had forged to with-
in feet of the Eagles' goal line.
Another handed the fighting
Catholics the pigskin on a series
of downs that saw the Houston
team's lone touchdown made.
Star of the game for Bay City
was Halfback Gilbert Acosta. Bay
Ciy's fastest man made several
long runs in the first half and
snagged a couple of passes.
Acosta set up the Cats' touch-
down in the second quarter in
which Fullback Larry Huitt plung-
ed over from the two-foot line.
Huitt, switched from end to
fullback in this game, acquitted
himself well at his new position.
Quarterback Ben Muniz handled
the ball well. He and Halfback
Romeo Mendez alternated on hard
running plays into the line.
Bay City had more luck with
sweeping runs in this game than
in any other this season. Big rea-
son for this was the Mercury-
winged Acosta, who has been side-
lined in recent weeks with a leg
injury.
The halfback saw little action
in the second half after taking the
opening kick-off back to the Bay
City 38 after bobbling the ball on
his own 10.

have never seen one q-u-i-t like it

the Longhorns won't win another
ball game this year. On top of
Texas' humiliating loss to Rice, the
Owlets beat what was rated the
strongest Texas freshmen team in
history the night before! Ugh!

Friday. Van Vleck, down from the
beating they took at the hands of
Tidehaven two weeks ago, lost to>
Danbury, 25-6, last week.
Bay City Junior High School,
still racking opponents over the
coals, will be going up against
Wharton Thursday night there in
what may prove to be their tough-
est game of the season.
Wharton has only one defeat tc
mar its otherwise perfect record.
Alvin will challenge the Bay*
City Black Cat "B" team here the
same night in district play. Al-
though the junior Cats have a
mediocre record this season, they
are expected to be "up" for this
one.
Another district title may be
decided at Sweeny Friday when
West Columbia tries Neptune &
Co. Both teams have perfect
records over the season as well as
two District 26-AA wins.
Many Bay Citians are expected
to hit the highway for Sweeny
since the Black Cats are playing
way over in Alvin.
Palacios, having its worst sea-
son in years, will go up against a
Wharton team with an even poorer
record. The Tigers have lost seven
and won none while the Sharks
have won one, lost five, and tied
one.
Only other District 12-AAA
game this week, and one in which
the Black Cats will take a great
interest, has El Campo at LaMar-
que. These two teams are tied for
the district lead.
Another District 31-B game has
Danbury at Friendswood, and over
in District 26-AA Boling is at
Edna.
