meter repeater station,
The equipment, now m

Albany to use only small
port able transceivers

repeater were provided
by the county and the Al
bany United Fund, Foster
said. "It was built by the
members of Key City
Amateur Radio Club of
Abilene- and was sold to
the -club at cost." The

and helped install the

has allowed the club the
use o f his foot tower
on One Mile hill, rent free,

Having applied for af
filiation with the Ameri
can Radio Relay League,
the official governing
body of amateur radio in
tin- United States, the
club is offering a 10 week
course this fall Meetings
will lie two hours each
week; anyone can obtain a
first license as a ri
amateur radio operator
by registering for the
course.
The first lesson is
scheduled for Monday,.
September 22, at <1:110 pin
Anyone interested is
urged to register with
any of the club members,
Hill Foster, John Rose,
Jay Adams, i'aul Quesen
berry anil Howard Todd,
or simply come to the
meeting
"There is no charge for
the course except for
study materials," mem
hers stressed, "nor is
membership in the club
required."
One new member was
elected at the meeting.
He is John Dyer of Jacks
boro. "Dyer holds the top
license, Amateur Extra,
and his operating skills
will add much to the
club's ability to respond
to any emergency situa
lion we may encounter,"
said Foster.
Signing for the course
is Ray Seedig of Albany.
Steve Jones and Johny
Halhert, who could not be
at the meeting, have in
dicated their intentions to
take the course. "This
means that Albany may
well have a total of nine
amateur radio operators
by the end of the year,
compared to none only
three years ago."

As a result of the
discussion on the pur
chase of a new truck. Cliff

campaign to secure funds
from firms and individu
als to help in the financing
of the project. So far Sted
dum has pledges and
checks amounting to ap
proximately $7,000. Sted

New Third Week Reports
To Be Distributed Sept. 22
Students in both Nancy
Smith Elementary School
and Albany High School
have "buckled down" to
serious study in this third
week of the school year.
"Third weeks reports go
to the parents on Monday,
September 22," an
nounced L. B. Gibson,
AHS principal.
However, not every mo
ment is spent in study.
Senior pictures were
made Monday; other
classes will soon follow.
The annual staff also met
on Monday to begin de
signing the new book. The
I9H0 Lion was distributed
last week.
The Junior Historians
enjoyed a hamburger sup
per Monday night. Those
attending were last year's
members still in, school.
Plans were made for some
field trips combining fun
with study. "Next week
the Historians will invite
all freshmen and other
new students to join
them," said the sponsor,

Main to her new position
and office in the shackel
ford County Courthouse.
The new location is
across the hall west of the
County Tsx Collector's
depsrtment on the first
floor.

The Council also spent
considerable time in
discussion of sewer pro
blems in Albany. Meeting
with the group were
Engineer Mike Sherrill
and Financial Advisor Joe
Smith. Plans are being
finalized to call for a bond
election to finance an
overhaul and enlarge
ment of the Albany sewer
system.
