Local JRB Supermarket Opens Feb. 23
Under Ownership Of Williams Family
The JRB Supermarket in
Albany was officially opened
unrier new ownership effective
Monday, February 23, according
to Rill Williams, partner in the
Williams family grocery opera
tion headquartered in Graftbury.
The local supermarket was one
of four JRR stores purchased last
week by thf Wiliiams family, join
ing I he chain of seven groceries
already being operated by the
Granbury based corporation.
4 The name change to "Thrift
Mart" is effective immediately,
with the store signs to be re
placed within the next few weeks,
said Williams, who is the eldest of
three sons currently in the gro
eery business with their father,
Clyde
The family operation was
begun with the purchase of the
original location in Roaring Spr
ings in 1951. Clyde Williams
owned and managed that grocery
until 1964, when it was sold and
the family moved to Comanche,
where another market was
bought.
The elder Williams operated
the Comanche store as sole pro-
prietor until 1974, when he was
joined in business by Bill.
With the assistance of two
other sons. Kerry and Jamey, the
family-owned concern grew to in-
clude supermarkets in Eaatland,
Cisco, Granbury, Weatherford,
Cleburne and a second location in
Comanche.
I hen last week, when I he
Rrownwoud based JRR chain was
sold to Affiliated Foods, the Wit
hams family increased tlv'ir own •
ership lo 11 stores by purchasing
markets in Albany, Fast land,
(iisco, and Gatesville.
, According to the spokesman for
t he firm, only a few changes are in
store for the local supermarket
The primary difference will be a
switch from the JRR lines in
dairy, canned and other products
to the Affiliated brand of Shur
fine
