ROME, March 9.—A marked Improve-
ment was noted today in the condlton of
K'opet Plus X, both tire Inflammation of
the throat and the hoarsenosa being con-
siderably diminished.
The Pope himself said he felt much re»
llevod and hoped that his "tyrunts"
would allow him to resume at an early
date the ordinary course of life. The at-
tending phytdciuns. however, insist that
he continue to rest.
The Pope passed a tranquil night. Pr
Anjlcl, who remained In ail adjacent
loom, did not need to give his personal
servlceg to the patient until this morning.
The Pope then received the papal secre-
tary of atate, Cardinal Merry del Val,
and afterwards bis sisters and niece, who
remained with him for more thun half an
hour.
Dr. Marchlafavu. In describing the con-
dition of his holinets, today said that
there were no .^vmptoms of gout, from
which the Pope has l>een a frequent suf-
ferer, but that he is afflicted at the
present time with only a simple bronchial
affection somewhat diffuse, but without
any alarming character.
He declared tb.it there was nothing of
an alarming nature whatever in the
Pope'a Indisposition which might pass
unnoticed, except for the advanced age
of the pontiff
