TklSAPPOJNTMENT reigned ill over town Sunday when it became arpar-

S. U. GIRLS' SIX
II GAME TONIGHT
CLEVER CONTEST IN BASKET-
BALL SCHEDULE AT ST. MARK'S
GYMNASIUM.
1
On a whirlwind campaign of Southweal
Texas with th« view of Kettlri* the cham-
pionship of the Slate In basket-ball, the
ffirla' team of Southwestern University
will lie ber« today. It will meet the
Thomas School six at 7 o'clock tonlKht In
thi St. Mark's church (ymnuhim, and
one of the best (tirl basket-ball Karnes In
years la expected.
While In the past half-doien years the
Thomas Klrls have met and defeated moat
of the strong teama In the.*# parts, even
going out and defeating & number not In
this territory, they have never met the
H'Utliwc stern University girls, who for
J ears have ranked among the best play-
ers In Texas In their class. Thus far
the visitors' trip has been very success-
ful, and Thomas knows It la up against
the hardtst sort «r a proposition tonight,
facing a team picked from so large a
i tudent body and with so many players of
ixperlence.
Thomas has two players of the vic-
torious 1912 team on this year's six. Thev
are the Misses Oarst. MI*h Mary (larat
Ih captain of the team, playing center,
while her sister Is Becond center. The
I ulance of the team Is composed of play-
ers of last year's subs and new talent.
Thus far this team, which has loat but
two games In six years, has won all Its
contests again this season But It lias
not been able to get many games thus
far. It hopes to make a strong showing
, gainst Southwestern, however, upholding
as fat us possible Its record of past
>ears. That the odds are with the vis-
itors muy be true, say the Thomas girls,
but they have to be ahown.
The rules of the game wll be the same
Hi those governing tile boys' contests, ex-
cfpt that each team will have six play-
ers Instead of five. Experience has shown
that these rules produce a prettier game,
while not being any rougher than the
girls' rules when the game Is properly
handled by the officials. The two teams
have been fortunate In getting an offlclul
of experience and ability In ticorge Kott-
Ici fm the game tonight.
Southwestern last week at Han Marcos
defeated both Normal und Itaptlst Acad-
emy, and they come here confident of re-
peating. The management knows the
strength of the Thomas team for years,
however, and feels that tho winning of
today's game probably will Insure the
State girls' basket-ball title to Southwest-
ern.
There Is a great deal pf Interest locally
In the game, and a large crowd Is ex-
pected out to root for the success of San
Antonio, while some also will take this
ti caslon of roottug for the opposition.
