(By Lillian E. Young.)
VH.N'ICE, Italy, April 17.—A charmingly
prelty little Austrlau lady with quite the
best «ort of taste in clothes, Is stopping
at this hotel while the season Is od, and
she has proven equally charming to talk
to. She was quite childishly pleased when
I told her 1 would like to sketch the gown
she was wearing to ttend home to a nice
American newspaper, and allowed me to
get every detail. Don't you think it a
splendid design for a new spring gown?
The original Is In old blue taffeta with
a changeable silver tone, and has for a
blouse, chiffon ut the same blue ground
and white conventionnliied shrysunthe-
muin design.
First there Is a fine white net blouse
with long sleeves and the stenciled chif-
fon is mounted over the net guimpe, and
a collar aud soft little revers of net turn
back from the neck. A black satin tie is
run under the collar and crossed over tho
bust between the blouse edges then down
through two eyelets in Be pointed taffeta
girdle, where it is knotted on the outside
and finished with small tassels.
As the kimono sleeve of the blouse is
hardly shaped In under the arm at all.
considerable fulness results, and this Is
taken up iu front aud back In small, gath-
ered folds merely with a line of gathers.
This Is hidden by the double-pointed bib
section of taffeta «et In above the belt
well over to either fide aud hooked loosely
under the arms with one point caught up
against the front of the blouse and the
other against the back. The taffeta skirt
Is slightly gathered nil about the waist
and is oddly draped in front by means of
three lifted tucks horizontally run, from
the ends of which graceful folds falyl be-
low the hips. 1 dou't know exactly how
this is cut, but I'm quite certain there
are similar patterns to be hod from one
of the large pattern companies at home.
it is a model well suited to any summer
silk unit one that may readily be repro-
duced in various pleasing color schemes.
There Is not reason why It wouldn't be
particularly smart in a navy blue with a
touch of geranium color or of emerald
green iu the figured chiffon blouse and
tie.
The lady who wore it Is from Vienna,
arid that is where most good styles origi-
nate.
Muir, Rudolph Oroos, Robert Barclay,
Hobiusou N. Hodge and Adolph lieck-
ma un.
Assisting the hosts in entertaining the
guests were the following:

in jetted lace with orange girdle and
rhinestone pendant. Diamonds.
Mrs. Foard Townsend, cream duchesse
lace with panniers of light green ma line
ami rosebud and rhinestone trimmings.
Mrs. Dick O. Terrell, white lace embroid-
ered over cream charmeuse with girdle of
Oriental <"1ilTf<jn embroidered In gold.
Mrs, William Aubrey, whtte lace gown
ovo1 white satin, fashioned with the triple
t girdle.
Mrs. Wallace Newton, crystal trimmed
IMuffunt ruffles with black velvet
A splendid design for tftffft.

.. A
To honor Her Majesty, the Queen of the
Coyrt. of the \ear, aud her ladles iu wail-
ing, the Order of the Alamo entertained at
an elaborately appointed dance last even-
ing at the Hunter Hotel. A wealth of
smilax and Texas wild flowers transform-
ed the lobby, the courts and the ballroom
Into springtime bowers. In this fit set
ting royalty anil attending graces wiilled
away the hours in dancing. Partitioned
off by a verdant wall of palms, the north
end of the lobby was used as a reception
room, and the guests were welcomed here
by the wives of the married members and
the hosts. Shortly after !i o'clock the
dancers formed In line, and led by Mr.
and Mrs. Dick u. Terrell, marched Into
the ballroom to do honor |o her Majesty.
I he white and gold of the ballroom was
intensified by the lavish um< of yellow
ma line, Intertwined with sprays of South-
em smilax. Festooned from chandelier
to chandelier, and forming a freize above
thi- windows, the greenery was every-
where in evidence.
Surmounting the cornices were vases of
yellow daisies and fern. Above the Ihrone
chair was a great bouquet of American
Beauty roses. Standing on the dlas was

the' vjueen. Following this pretty cere-
mooy; darning was enjoyed. The dain-e
programs, of white satin, bearing a por-
trait. of the Queen, recording the names of
the tiffiiers and directors of the order
and the names of the ladies in waiting to
Her Majesty, made handsome souvenirs
of the ball. During intermission the
dancers promenaded in the two courts.
Smilax served as the only ornamentation
of the kiuer court. The outer court was
inclosed by a high white wall, elaborately
festooned and draped with smilax anil
American Beauty roses, com-ealing colored
lights.^ In the center of each court punch

cluding the Queen, her prime minister,
aud the Aachhishop and Mrs. Terrell, tin.
