confidence report® means no dings
Always a lively scene, our
Montague County Capitol is
the focus for several unique
events in 2013. The historic
Montague County
Courthouse is 100 years old
this year, and the Montague
County Historical
Commission has been asked
to lead a county-wide cele-
bration of that milestone.
Mark your calendars now.
Plan to "be there" for a great
big birthday party on
Saturday, October 12.
Details are being worked out
at this time and various area
organizations may request
your active participation in
that celebration. Pictures,
memories and ideas are still
being sought.
Many have seen and
already collected their own
Courthouse Commemorative
Coin, which was "struck" by
the MCHC as a souvenir for
the Courthouse Centennial.
It depicts the MC
Courthouse on one side and
the historic dome on the
other including the dates
1913-2013. This cast metal
coin is finished with impres-
sive faux gold and comes in
a clear plastic case. At a cost
of $5, it is very collectable
and is helping to raise funds
to support historical under-
takings.
It is available at the Old
Jail Museum on Friday after-
noons and Saturdays from 10
until. Plans are to keep it
available through October
12th.

"We tell them 'You're
just registering with us, and
if we get a call, we can look
it up and say they have a
water well and it's alright',"
Henley explained.

Dutifully, each and every
June the city of Nocona fol-
lows the state's wishes and
sends all of its water cus-
tomers its annual "Consumer
Confidence Report", and
each and every year the col-
lective response by the pub-
lic is exactly opposite -
rather than confidence there
is doubt, concern and ques-
tions.
And as soon as the report
hits the mail boxes, and a
copy is published in the
Nocona News, the con-
sumers start worrying trying
to understand what coliform
is and trihalomethanes and
chlorites, and chloramines
and all of the other scientific
terms and whether the num-
bers contained in the report
are reassuring or concerning.
"We had some phone
calls and concerns," City
Manager Lynn Henley
sighed.
The bottom line, the city
manager said, is the city's
water meets or exceeds all of
the state's quality levels -
across the board.
"Every year they chatter,"
Henley says of the citizens.
"A few years ago we had
some issues with trihalo-
mathanes, which is a by-
product of chorine, but we
got that under control," he
said.
"We didn't get any dings
on anything this year," he
assured the residents.
This year the city added
two more items to the report
- a reminder of the Stage 4
and Stage 5 water use
restrictions and a notice that
owners of water wells within
the city limits need to regis-
ter their wells and pick up a
sign to be posted in their
yards when watering with
well water.
