Nocona N ghts honors Texas Independence
Mike Blakely, Thomas Michael Riley * John Greenberg to perform March 3rd
Texas Independence Day
will be celebrated with a dinner
and music at the Nocona
American Legion Hall on Sat.
March 3, at 6:30 p.m.
The entertainment for the
evening will be Mike Blakely,
Thomas Michael Riley, and
John Green berg, aka "The Note
Gropers".
Nocona Nights will sponsor
the event as part of their Texas
Music Series.
Mike Blakely is a noted
songwriter and novelist.
Recently, when a major publish-
er began looking for a novelist
to team up with international
entertainment icon, Willie
Nelson, they came straight to
Mike Blakely. Blakely and
Nelson are currently working on
their co-written western novel,
designed to adapt to the big
screen, with Willie himself
playing the lead role. The book
is scheduled for release by 2008.
Meanwhile, Blakely contin-
ues to leave his creative foot-
prints across the landscapes of
Texas, the U.S., and the world,
as the author of 15 books and a
performing songwriter with six
CD's to his credit. He's per-
formed coast -to-coast and bor-

The Nocona Economic
Development Corporations will
host the next historical survey
meeting Saturday, March 3
beginning at 10 a.m. in the
Community Center.
This historical survey of
Nocona, Red River Station and
Spanish Fort will help collect
data, including photographs, of
every structure in these areas.
The survey is an important
tool for preserving the history
and heritage of the community
for generations to come.
Participation by both older
community members, who
remember what Nocona used to
be like and where families lived
and worked, and younger mem-
bers, especially Nocona youth,
is important to the success of the
project. Community organiza-
tions like the Lions Club, Rotary
and the Literary Society are also
invited to participate in the sur-
vey.
Light refreshments will be
available at the meeting.
Please call the NEDC at 825-
3150 by Thursday, March 1 to
reserve a place in this important
endeavor or for more informa-
tion.

this will be an informal discus-
sion session, asking for ideas
and suggestions.
Although the nationwide
"Great American Cleanup" runs
from March 1 to May 31 each
year, plans are now being made
for the Nocona Spring city wide
cleanup to begin on Saturday,
April 14th, as part of the Texas
Department of Transportation's

of Texas highways and streets.
has entertained audiences in
Australia, Austria, Holland,
Germany, Italy, and Mexico.
This is Mike's second appear-
ance at Nocona Nights.
Thomas Michael Riley will
also join Blakely in Nocona.
Riley was honored as the Hill
Country Entertainer of the Year
in 2002 and 2004. He is earning
the status of a legend as he
writes and sings his own brand
of colorful and thoughtful Texas
Americana Music. Each per-
formance, Thomas delights fans
of country music with his song-
writing skills, spirited music
and wonderful sense of humor.
His ability to capture his audi-
ence is pure magic.
Rounding out the trio will be
John Greenberg, also known as
Johnny Gringo. Greenberg has
been a two time finalist at the
Kerrville Folk Festival. Being a
guitarist first, John spent a lot of
time honing his guitar chops on
some of the old blues legends
like Howlin'Wolf, Lightin'
Hopkins as well as some of the
younger greats like Robben
Ford and Ian Moore.
