Matters of Record
Sheriff
9/U-Gaines County Sheriff's
officers reported the recovery of a
1984 tractor that had been stolen
from land 10 miles west and one
mile north of Seminole on Sept. 5,
.1988.
According to Sheriff Jon Key, an
officer with auto theft in El Paso
had been informed the tractor had
been taken for repair to Las Cruces,
NM and was discovered to have
been stolen. The officer met with
New- Mexico law enforcement
officers in Anthony, NM and all
went to a rural area. The tractor had
been entered as stolen, with
appropriate identification, at the
lime of the theft.
Upon questioning, the current
owner of the tractor said he had
purchased the vehicle for $30,000
about two years ago and gave
officers a description of who sold
it to him. At that lime, the tractor
would have been worth
approximately S35.000.
Key said that local officers are
following up some of the leads, but
that no arrests have been made.
Owners of the tractor are currently
making arrangements to return it to
Seminole.
