An election will beheld on Tuesday the
?th day of January, 18W0, between the
hours of 8 A, M. and 6 P.M. in all four
wards of the city of El Paso, El Paso,Co
Texas, for the purpose of ratifying the
action of tbe City Council ordering issu*
ance of city bonds, as follows.
For tbe erection completion and fur-
nishing Public echooi buildings and the
support of the Public school of the city

Funding the city indebtedness 120.000,
Purchasing or erecting Suitable water
works 175,000.

Will be eiititl d to vote.
The election in the First Ward will be
held in tbe Fire Department room of the
City htall and T. M. County is appointed
presiding judge.
The election in the Second Ward will
be held at the efiice of liugg's stable on
Oregon street and Isaiah Weston is apn
pointed presiding judge.
The election in the Third Ward will be
held in the old hheldou building on St
Louis street, and R. B. Bias is appointed
presiding judge.
The election in the Fourth Ward will
be held u> Sam Schtitz building corner

Be it ordained by the city council

Section 1. There shall be levied on
and collected from every person, firm,
company, or association of persons, beep-
ing within the city any house for the
purpose of exhibitiig or keeping
therein or permiting to be kept
or exhibited therein, any tables
or banks used for gambling, . by
whatsoever name or names called or
commonly known, or any such tables or
banks which have no naine, an annual
license of <800, which shall be paid quar-
terly in advance, provided that before
any license shall issue the said person,
firms, company, or association of per-,
sons, shnll exhibit to the assessorand col-
lector a peiuiii signed by the mayor and
the majority of the committee on police
of tne city council desicnating the per~
son or persons, firm, company or associa-
tion ot persons to whom the license may
issue and the bouse in which said gam-
bling is to be conducted.
Sec. 2. If any person, firm, company,
or association of persons, shall keep
within thi» city any house for the pur-
pose of exhibiting or keeping therein any
tables or banks or permit to be kept or
exhibited therein any tables or banks
used for gaming, by whatsoever name
called or commonly known, or any tables
or banks which have no name, without
having first obtainad such license from
the city assessor and collector, he or they
may be deemed guilty of an oflVnse, and
upon conviction thereof before the re-
corder shall be fined not less than #25,nor
more than *250, and imprisonment is the
city jail not less that ten Dor ,more than
sixty days, for each and every such of-
fense, and, provided further, that each
and every day he or they shall continue
to keep such house, without complying
with the provisions of this ordinance
shall be deemed astparate offense.
Sec. 3. Any beeper of such house as
described intbe foregoing sections, who
shall allow minors under 21 yeirsof age
to* frequent, remain or abide upon such
premises, shall be fined upon conviction
thereof before the recofder In any sum
not less than 125, nor more than 1250
for each and every such offense, and in
default of payment shall be committed to
the city prison, or condemned to labor on
public works of the city, as provided in
general ordinance.
Sec. 4. In all prosecutions under this
ordinance for keeping a gambling house
within the city limits, proff of thegeneral
reputation of the house in question in the
community or neighborhood in which
the tame is located shall be admisabie to
establish its character.
Sec. 5. This ordinance shall be in
force from and after its passage and pub
lication.

It is a well eetablished fact that no rails
road in thin country has finer equipment
in all of its branches than the Wabash
