There are two winds aloft facsimile charts that are of special interest to the aviator.
1. The lower level chart contains plotted winds for the second standard level above the
surface (approximately 2000 ft. above the ground); 5000, 8000 and 10000 foot altitudes
above mean sea level.2. The intermediate level chart contains winds for the 1400d, 20000, 25000and 30000 foot
altitudes above mean sea level.
We will discuss only the lower level charts because the higher levels are of little value to the
army aviator. He would rarely have occasion to fly above 10000 feet.
Using the lower level charts on page 8, the plotted winds aloft for the Dallas-Fort Worth area at 800 ft. are
a. 030 at 30 knots.
b. 060 at 15 knots.
c. 070 at 20 knots.
d. 220 at 20 knots.
