Yesterday many from all porta
of the state arrived. G. C. Waggoner
from Ladotila arrived with his famous
dog, Sea Foam, and also Hill Aviator
and Miss Red Buck. Trouble Waters,
the best dog of Dr. H. F. Wolford of
McKinney, Tex., arrive! also. Hobo
and Red Donn<Hl from Da.I1** were
two others that were rjoeived. Mid-
lothian, Texas will be represented by
the dogs Smoky Donnsll, J.oni5on
Whiff, and Ft. Worth. Thiie dogs
also were among yesterday's list of
arrivals. Sporty Walker and Alva-
rado, the dogs from Tayior aiso ar-
rived.
There are more of the lUt .if stake-
winning dogs that will arrive today.
There will be no amateur dogs lcr
then races. Every one that will be
entered In the races will be dogs that
have at one time or another won

Leon GIbbens, United State® army,
died in a feoapltal here lawt night as
a result of injuries received Feb. 2#,
when the automobile in which he was
riding was struck by a train at Eu-
dora, Kan. His companion. Dan Har-
rison of Downs, Kan., died a few
hours after the accident

Sunday, March 5, Mrs. A. E. Curlie
of Pendleton, gave a surprise birthday
dinner in honor of her husband's 54th
birthday.
As he arrived home from the morn-
ing services, he was overtaken by a
crowd of friends right at his Joor. He
did not understand, but lu his usual
cordial manner he gave them a hearty
welcome.
At 1 o'clock, t-till unaware of the
feast that had been set, Tie was usher-
ed into the beautHjl, spacious din-
ing room, #hich had been darkened.
He was unable to speak, so beautiful
was the sight. A munificent cake,
laden with 64 candles, was in the cen-
ter of the table. Jle was asked lo
blow the candles out iu three p iffs.
As Rev. J. T. Ferguson said the
blessing, the strains of ' Silver Th.eads
Among the Gold" flo.itcl softly
through the room.
At his plade were gifts from bis
charming wife and friends. The eve-
ning passed all too sooi and memory
will always present a beautiful re-
membrance of this ".unoiu'o i with hon-

wife.

To the accompaniment of fried
chicken, with rich brown gravy and
all other appetiring "flilns,'" and re-
galed by charming Instrumental and
vooal music the Methodist Brother-
hood of First Methodist church last
evening at a meeting in the basement
of the church discussed the coming
revival to be conducted here by Rev.
Burke Culpepper, beginning nest Sun-
day, March 12.
There were between fifty and sixty
members of the Brotherhood present
and til manifested the utmost enthu-
siasm in the coming revival and
promised to exert their best efforts to
Insure its success. Word came from
Brownwood where Evangelist Cul-
pepper has been conducting a meetinf
for the past three weeks that more
than 4,000 persons crowded their way
into the tabernacle Sunday evening
while fully 1,000 stood outside unable
to gain admission. Evangelist Cul-
pepper made a special address for
children and young folks at the Sun-
day evening service and nearly half
his big audience was composed of
young folks who showed deep interest
in the message he brought them.
Plans for the Temple meeting dis-
cussed at the meeting last evening in-
cluded arrangements for automobiles
for bringing to the revival services
those living at too great a distance for
comfortable walking and too feeble to
walk* F. A. Thomson, chairman of
the committee for providing autos re-
ported that several cars had been
promised and asked for other volun-
teers and requests those who will
furnish cars to advise htm by Satur-
day. The publicity program also was
reported on as were other features
and It was announced that Evange-
list Culpepper Is expected to arrive
here Saturday morning accompanied
by John U. Robinson, who will have
charge of the choir and the musical
programs for the services.
While the brotherhood members
were dining upon delicious fried
chicken and trimmings Miss Emily Al-
len accompanied on the piano by Miss
Gladys Northiagton played severe.*
delightfal violin selections which wer*
heartily encored. These were follow-
ed by vocal renditious by Judge Mar-
tin M. White and J. L. Adrian, who
were greeted with cordial applause.
Belton, March 8.—J. H. Simmons of
Temple was appointed justice of the
peace of the Temple precinct today by
the commissioners' court. Mr. Sim-
mons succeeds O. N. Cantrell who re-
cently resigned.
Report From Churches.
Belton, March 8.—Reports from
forty churches In the Salado Baptist
association were heard yesterday in
the regular monthly session of the
Workers Conference of this associa-
tion. These reports were most en-
couraging and showed that much pro-
gress is being made in this section by
the Baptist denomination.
A feature of the program of the
day was the furthering of the Seventy-
Five Million Dollar campaign.

Belton, March 8.—TJie grand jury
for the March term of the district
court which convened last Monday
recessed this afternoon until next
Thursday, March 16, at which time it
will continue Investigation of law vio
lations.
During its session this week only
one biy of indictment was returned
and thut was against Carl Hicks, who
was charged with robbery with fire
arms.
Belton, March I.—In the examina-
tion held in this city today for the
poatoffice employe* in the dispatching
of mail an unusual high average was
made by each of the five who took
the examinaiton. J. W. Hamilton and
Sid Casey both made perfect grades of
100 per cent Ernest Hair made 99.79
per cent, Fred E. Lewis 9J.06 per cent
and Robert Madden 88.S! per cent.
The examination was given by W.
M. Swift, chief clerk of the railway
mail aervice out of Ft. Worth. Mr.
Swift stated that out of 250 persons
who took the examination last year
there were only two who made perfect
grades of 100 per cent. Mr. Swift, as
well as Postmaster Vick, seemed high-
ly pleased over the creditable showing
made by the local postoffice boys.
