The good roads committee of the
Temple Chamber of Commerco made
an Inspection tour >of the new Meri-
diau-K. T., federal old, highway yes-
terday afternoon as the guests of A. C.
Buchanan and Son, contractors.
Tho road, scheduled to be completed
by Jan. 15, Is one of the most beauti-
ful highways in the state and passed
through Bell county from Troy to
Bartlett. It Is direct n'l the way,
graded up under the supervision of
expert road engineers almost like n
railroad and is "1 feet wide, including
four-foot shoulders on cither sale to
hold the gravel in place. The high-
way will cost a total of approximately
1300,000, there being about $125,000
worth of bridges on it, Some of these
are most piet resque structures of
concrete and tho new airline route
promises to become one of the most
popular drives in this section when it
is completed. The curves on it are
broad and beautiful and in almost
every particular is an ideal highway.
Its bridges and roadbed are de.ilg 1
for permanence, though the surfac-
ing is not expected to last so long
without gomi care and replacement
at intervals. The entire road is built
up On n good grade with wide drain-
age .structures.
Oravel Is being hankd for tie worli
front light different gravel pus. In
one place near the Holland cemetery,
tho route has bt eii shot-tepid by elimi-
nating five dangerous curves and the
new direct line of the road cut ilirct-
ly through a small gravel pit. The
contractors are using the gravel on the
rond in this section on both sides of
it to build up the grade.
