The New York American in a recent article said: "Dirt is dirt only when it is out of p
that Is the dirt the people of the city are just now making such gigantic efforts to get rid of.
allowed to peacefully repose right where it is stopping at present. .
To properly clean up a city it is necessary that one have a few articles with which to do the work. And the clean-up process is not complete unless it is done from top to bottom, and frome
. 7 . s-i side to theother. Not only should the city be cleaned, scoured and trimmed, but it should be painted,
or at least a good portion of it would be greatly improved if a few coats of paint were put on.
These clean-up wars are correctly termed "Clean-Up and Paint-Up" campaigns, because to be
done correctly a great deal of paint is used. The old outhouses, the barns, and many times the homes,
receive new coats of paint. The furniture is gone over with varnish, the floors are stained, the grass is
cut, the trash removed, the tin cans hauled off, and things are generally brightened up.
The merchants and business houses represented on this page are asking for the patronage of people
who believe in cleaning up the town, and most of them have something to sell that will be useful in the
work. Read these ads, for each one of them ha's a message to the readers of this paper, which should
be considered when looking about for articles of "Clean-up warfare."
