furiated peasantry when the captive's
wife, hearing of her husband's peril

wavs been good to the poor sufferers,
who on hearing her plea for mercy

tive. The nobleman just saved from
the jaws of death undestands that
kindness goes further than brutality,
and going to a crucifix nearby he

hunger and suffering, she lays the
little tot on the door-step of a poor
looking hut and departs, leaving the
child to- Its fate. The owner of tie
cottage, aa he makes his rounds for
the night, discovers the little human
bundle and carries It in to his wife.
The kindhearted woman welcomes
the poor little outcast, and placing it
In the crib with her own child, de-
cides to give It a mother's care. The
next scene shows the two children
grown, and one can see what a duti-
ful daughter the adopted girl endea-
vors to be and how anxious she seems
to please her benefactors. The fos-
ter father, however, does not bear
much love for the foundling and we
see htm now aa he returns home one
evening hungry and out of temper.
Not finding his meal prepared he la
just about to strike his daughter,but
before he can carry out hia design
his son steps between them and de-
fies the Infuriated man. thus protect-
ing the girl from the blow about to
descend upon her. Time goes on, and
again we see the brother and slter,
now no longer chldren, but she Is a
beautiful woman and he Is a fine
looking man. They have learned to
love each other in all these years and
everything seems bright for them un-
til one day a black cloud darkens
their pathway, for the father wishes
his ton to marry a rich neghbor's
daughter, and when the young man
refusea to comply with his wishes

decides to pardon the young lovers
and let them enjoy their hapiness.
We next see the happy family as they
are gathered around the merry win-
ter fireside, and all aeema joy and
gladness in the home once more.

tract for the printing of the ballots
for the July Primaries was today
awarded to Mr. J. P. Crouch of the
Temple Times, he being the lowest
bidder for the Job. Mr. Crouch saya
the ballots will be ready for delivery
by Wednesday 22 Inst.
