Uncertain Time.—Chatham
Island, lying off' the coast of
New Zealand, in the South Pa-
cific Ocean, is peculiarly situated
as it is one of the tew inhabita-
ble points of the globe where the
day ot the week phanges. It is
just on the line of demarcation
between dates. There high 12
on Sunday, or Sunday noon,
ceases, and instantly Monday
meridian begins, Sunday comes
into a man^ house on the e^st
side, and becomes Monday by
the time it passes out the western
door. A man sits down to his
noonday dinner on Sunday and
it is M&nday noon before he fin-
ishes it. There Saturday is Sun-
day and Sunday is Monday, and
Mouday becomes suddenly trans-
ferred into Tuesday.
Accounts from Tripola and
Barbary, North Africa, say an
area ot 100 miles has been de-
vastated by locusts. Crops are
entirely destroyed and a famine
is imminent.
This house is well supplied at all
times with the finest liquors, wines, St.
Louis Ale and beer; also domestic and
imported cigars. Agent at this place
for the celebrated Stonewall whiskey.
A private sitting-room, for the con-
venience of customers, is attached to
