Levying a Tax for Public Free School
purposes.
Be it ordained by the City Council
of the city of -Brenham,
SiiC; I. That, whereas on the 4th
day of August, 1877, the tax payers vo
ted the levy of a txx of 1 fourth of one
percent, for the purpose of maintain
injr the Public Free Schools of the citv
of Brenham, there be and is hereby
levied for the use of the city, in the
support and maintainance of the Pub
lie Free Schools, for the scholastic yeai
commencing Sept, 1st, 1877, and end
ing June 30th, 1878, upon all pr perty,
real and personal, within the corporaic
limit* of the said 'city, upon which »
tax is levied by the Siate, an annual
dire it and ad valorem tax of one fourth
of one per cent. <
Sec 2. The Assessor and Collector
shall proceed to assess and Collect said
tax in accordance with the ordinance*
of this city, and the general laws of th'
State

Authorising the purchase from E. P
Davis of the 'old Key Homestead' foi
school purposes.
Whereas E. P Davis, the owner of
the property now rented lor and occu-
pied by the Public Free Schools of th«
citv, snd known as the 'old Key Home-
stead,' has offered the same for sale t<>
the city for the sum of two thousand
and five hundred dollars, payable one
thousand dollars in cash; one hundred
and fifty dollars January 1st, 1878; six
hundred and seventy five dollars Srpt
22d, 1878; and six hundred and Seven-
ty five dollars Sept. 23d, 1870, with in-
terest oh deferred payments at the rute
of teii per cent per annum; therefore,
be it resolved by the City Council 0;
the city of Brenham,
1. That the city accept the said off r
of the said E. P. Davis, And purchase,
the pr perty upon the term# mentioned
therein.
2. The Mayor is hejehy author'zed
and 'instructed to use'the f&r the pur-
pose of m-.kilig said put chase' the pro-
eeds of the sale of the .Jot of land

the Masonic Lialvre; and that he draw
