" June 26, 1837 76 G. BORDEN. Jr , Collector,
THE subscriber having a large interest in the TOWN OF RICHMOND,
and the adjoining lands, as will be "een by the rdiogrrtphical sketch an-
nexed to the plan of said town, and desirous of advancing the improvement of
this important point, proposes to dispose of iti and out lots on the most favora-
ble terms.
To such as will improve by erecting buildings, town lot? will be given
gratis. Such persons as may procure lots by purchase or otherwise, can have
the privilege of cutting timber on four hundred acres of woodland, for building
and fuel.
The eligibility of the place for a town will not be disputed when Its rela-
tive situation to other important pointsis known. Always accessible to steam
boats of light draught, navigation is thus secured to the mouth of the Brazos.
The distance, only 30 miles, from Houston which citv , having a direct and
safe steamboat navigation to the port of Galveston, which nature has designed
as the New York of Texas will make Richmond the point through which tht
g" eat road to ibe west will alwa3rs pass, and where the busines of a vpry rich
and fertile country will centre.
Theincrease of population on the Brazos has already suggested the forma-
tion of a new county to be called "Fort Bend," for which object congress has
been petitioned, and the county seat will of necessity- be established at Rich-
mond. The subscriber, whose interest in the town and out lots of Richmond con-
sists of 1700 acres, is willing to divide it into 100 shares, which he will also sell
on reasonable terms.
Persons wishing to avail themselves of good bargains in share" or lot, with
the sure increase of property, would find it to their advantage to examine and
convince themselves of the truth of the foregoing s atements.
Richmond, July 11,1837. 79-6m THOS H. BORDEN.
THE CITY OF BUFFAX.OE,
Buffaloe Bayou, Texas.
THIS city, most eligibly situated, and nearly equidistant from the most im
portant towns in Texas, and decidedlv the best location in the country,
as well from the quality of its well timbered laud and internal productive ad-
vantages, with a pure spring of fresh water, is now being laid out Into lots for
public or private sale. The city of Buffaloe is distant from the Brazos about
22 miles; from the mouth of the San Jacinto 10 miles, and from the city of
Houston about 8 miles. Ab the Buffaloe bayou, above its junction with the
San Jacinto river, and even up to the levee of the projected city, widens to a con-
siderable extent, vessels that can cross Red Fish bar may sail up, in one day and
discharge their cargoes. The proprietors of the town have determined as soon
as practicable to run a rail road to strike the Brazos seven miles above Bolivar,
and to use every effort, having considerable capital at their control, to rival
any city or town in Texas. " Application for lots to be made to Mr. Meri-
wether W. Smith, on the premises. Houston, Jul 8, 1837 . 77
Mouse, Sign,, and Ornamental Painting.
The subscriber begs leave to inform the citizens of Houston and thecoun-
try at large, that be intends carrying on the above business in all its va-
rious branches, in the city of Houston, and by a diligent attention to business,
he expects to meet with a share of public patronage.

TEXAS JAN AIiE.
Y virtue of an act of the general congress of the republic of Texas, passed
at their last session, authorising me To have surveyed the Island of Galves
ton, to be laid off in lots of not less than ten, nor over forty acres each; and that
the said lots be sold in the city of Houston to the hi0hest bidder at public auc-
tion, on the second Monday in November next. The public are hereby noti-
fied that the said island will be thus partitioned off in tiers, with suitable and
convenient avenues for ingress and egress, leading across from the Bay to the
Gulf shore, and sold accordingly. The terms of sale will be one fourth cash,
and the balance in equal instalments payable in three, six and nine months,
with lien until final payment. The government will guarantee "the purchaser
by patent. Itis known tha, various individuals under specious pretexts pre-
tend to ho-d claims to this Island f thegovernment, however, are satisfied that
all such claims are fictitious, and only calculated for speculation, and that the
right of the property isproporlyin the government. A plan of the surveys will
be exhibited in' Banks' Arcade, city of New Orleans, assoon as the work can be
completed. The locality of this Island for commercial advantages is too well
"known to the public to need description ; besides its very great and well known
advantages for health as a summer residence. It is confidently hoped that an
enlightened public will avail themselves of the advantages here offered.
