CH Seeders Visit
Botanical Gardens
Cedar Hill Seeder held their
last monthly meeting at the
Garden Center in For Worth
Botanical Gardens. Fourteen
members and guests from
Cedar Hill attended.
Speaker for the occas-
sion was Scot Fikes. Horti-
culturist and Park Department
Director who talked to the
group on planting and caring
for Stump Gardens; straw-
berry jars and hanging bas-
kets. He also told the ladies
how to plant tomatoes that
would have to have a ladder
to pick the fruit.
The Seeder will cooperate
during Clean-up Week by as-
sisting with pruning and th-
rough an anti-litter obser-
vance around the community.
The group had a buffet lun-
cheon at Jetton's in For Worth
before returning to Cedar Hill.
The Seeders recently don-
ated a Red Oak tree to the
school complex in observan-
ce of Arbor Day.
Guests of the club for the
day were Mrs. Bob Graham.
Mrs. Richard Bell, Mrs.
James Morgan and Mrs. Bob
Stinson.
WELCOME NEIGHBOR!
More than 100 families have
moved into the city of Cedar
Hill since the December 18,
1970. Most of these have
moved into the Cedar Hill
East Addition. !
These people are making
an economic impact on our
community and will mean
added prosperity for local
business through their pur-
chases in Cedar Hill.
The churches and civic or-
ganizations have begun to as-
similate the newcomers into
the community and we hope
that before too long they will
feel themselves to be rooted
into the community.
Welcomed to Cedar Hill are:

232 Phones
Added In 1970
Southwestern Bell has 232
reasons to expect continued
growth in Cedar Hill during
1971.
According to J.B. Hurley,
district manager for the tel-
ephone company, that's the
number of new telephones ad-
ded during 1970 for a year-
end total of 1,526 in service.
"By the end of the current
year," he continued, "the
company expects to add an-
other 315 telephones to those
already in service here.
"Use of telephones here
also is rising,'' he noted,
"with an annual total of
3.1 million local and long dis-
tance calls placed during 1970,
compared to 2.6 million dur-
ing 1969.
"The best possible service
at the lowest possible price
was not Southwestern Bell's
only contribution to Cedar Hill
during 1970," Hurley added.
"The company paid about
$1,800 in ad valorem property
taxes as well as some $1,800
in gross receipts taxes dur-
ing the year to meet its ob-
ligations as a good corporate
citizen."
Hurley pointed out that
Southwestern Bell is meeting
Cedar Hill's present and fut-
ure needs with plans for a
basement and one-storvbuild-
ing addition to the central of-
fice at 610 Belt Line Road
which is due for completion
by late 1972.
This project is part of a
statewide effort involving an
estimated $460 million dol-
lars in new construction for
service improvements and
expansion, he said. "This
massive amount of money for
Texas represents more than
half of Southwestern Bell's
planned expenditures in its
five-state operating territory
during 1971," Hurley expl-
ained.
He noted that more than
$180 million will be spent in
the company's northeast Te-
xas operating area—of which
Cedar Hill is a part.
"This money is being
spent in keeping with our com-
mitment to provide every cus-
tomer with the best possible
telephone service, while fac-
ing ever-increasing demands
for communications facilities,
Hurley said. "And all indic-
ations for the 1970's point to
unparalleled growth for the
communications industry—in
Texas and throughout the na-
tion. That's why we are set-
ting such large construction
budgets—so we can staj
ahead today and be ready foi
the demands of tomorrow."
