fish in this lake. She first
splashes the water with her
hand, when in a moment there
may be seen approaching Irom j
every direction hundreds of
large shiners, then eels, varying
111 size from one to three feet in
length. Next tut ties appear on I
the surface, ten, twenty-live and
thirty feet away, their necks j
stretched apparantly to see it it
is a friend or (oe who is disturb j
ing the waters. In less than
three minutes these various spe-
cies collect direct!)' before her,
and as she commences to feed
them the water is fairly alive
with them. They take bread
directly from her hands, and
turtles will allow her to take
them entirely out of the water,
and while she Ivolds them in one
hand they will eat with the
