A Special Session Held Friday—Quaran

The Washington county
miaaioners held a special meeting
Friday for the purpose of ap
proving the delinquent tax rol a
of Tax Collector Sam Schlenker.
The rolls were examined and ap
proved, and the clerk was order
ed to advertise the delinquen
tax rolls for the year 1930 in the
Brenham Banner.
Judge E. P. Curry issued a
proclamation ordering a specia
election to be held at John
Scurry's store at Chappell Hi
on May 1, for the selection of six
trustees for the independen
school district at Chappell Hill
Dr. T. 0. Hynes, county health
officer, submitted a report on the
smallpox situation, and the com
missioners passed an ordinance
abolishing the existing quaran
tine arrangements. The repor;
of Dr. Hynes shows that fifty
one flags were put up during the
prevalence of the malady^ and
that he treated 97 cases. Dr
Toland, health physician
Chappell Hill, reported two cases
and Dr. Laas three cases at Bur
ton. One death occurred at Bur
ton and none at either Brenham
or Chappell Hill. Seven white
families, numbering eighteen
persons, are iacluded in the re-
port of Dr. Hynes, the balance
beiug colored. Twenty families
were fed at the expense of the
county during the existence o
the malady.

Former Brenhamites.
The following self-explanatory
letters of enquiry have been re-
ceived :
Rev. Father Pridal, Brenham,
Texas.
Palestine, Texas, April 17th,
1900.—Dear Sir: I write to you
to do me a favor. I would like
for you to find out for me if there
is any public record kept of
deatha. 1 would like to get a
certified copy of my husband's
death.. He died in your city Oct.
26, 1880, at the boarding house
of A. H. Wood. His name was
George W. Wheeler and he was
an emyloye of the Qulf, Colorado
and Santa Fe railroad. He was
buried in what was known at the
time as the-Old Cemetery.- He
was not a Catholic. Myself and
three children arrived there the
same evening he died. We were
strangers in the place. Since
that time I have married again,
and my seoond husband has been
dead about eight months. On
account of family matters I am
obliged if possible to get a record
of Mr. Wheeler's death or a wit-
ness. The letter was signed Mrs.
Maggie McCormick.

Dear Sir: I wish to get my
war record to enable me to join
the Veteran Camp at this place.
I lived in your county from 1860
to 1866, and owned property at
Gay Hill. I joined Captain C.
Buster's company (Co. C., 20th
Texas Volunteers) at Hempstead.

Adjudged Insane.
In the county court Friday
John M. Crawford of Chappell
Rill was adjudged insane and
ordered confined in the State
asylum at Austin. Mr. Craw-
ford, prior to his affliction, was
one of the prominent citizens and
business men of Chappell Hill,
rfuch regret is expressed by his
numerous friends over his un-
fortunate condition and the hope
indulged that oareful treat-
ment may result in the restora-
tion of his faculties.
