pany how organizing at Austin, to set out on the expedi-tion'-to
Santa "Fe, will consist of about 300 men. ' We

and 22nd of April last; a very large numbgr of the citi
zens of Philadelphia, convened to consider the subject of
''forminga colony to emigrate to Texas in the fall of the
present year" "Mr. John Loud was called to. the chair
of the meeting, and Mr. James Brown to the station of
Secretary. The Rev. W. B. McCalla and- Rlr. Loud,
addressed the meeting, and made many interesting re-
marks relative to the soil, climate and productions of the
copntry. ' On the evening of the 22nd, an interesting dis-
cussion arose relative to. the '"advantages of emigrating
collectively," over the emigration merely 'of individuals
separately. At the close of the discussion, the meeting
appointed a committee of seveno draft a Constitution and
by-laws for the government of the colony. We are glad

The old General makes a speech to-day in San-Angus--tine,-and'has
announced, in a card, that ".Sans Houston
will be in Nacogdoches on Tuesday, 20th, to sell land."-
This is rather an ostentatious announcement of one's own
movements. But the General has but few strikers and
gougcrs and trumpeters hereabouls to herald his'coming.
Some of the enemies of Judge Burnet have; with their
usual industry, circulated a report that he was opposed t&
the Revolution. The following document refutes this
idle charge, and furnishes another evidence of.the ability
of this gentleman. Could all the documents'-whfch have-
issued from his pen he republished and, ribrrd. in the-
hands of the people of Texas," i.Jit-tJiotjlLir voice of
calumny would bo completely silenced, and every section
of our republic would furnish crowds of generous advo-
