Tbe work of laying the Commer-
cial Cable Company's new cable be-
tween Coney Island and Fox hay,
Canso, X. S., has beptin. The Brit-
ish cable steamer Silvcrton. from
which the operations arc conducted,
is nt the starting point on this »ido
with a crew of 850. There are 1)50
knots of cable to be laid, and the to-
tal cost will be laid, and the lotul
oost will be $1,125,000. This cable
will connect with the new cable to
the Azores, which was laid by the
Fa radii) about three months a^o.
High Kintal for a Hotel.
The Park Avenue hotel, at
Fourth avenue and Thirty-third
street, New York, has passed into
new management. It was leased
last week for ten years for nearly
$1,000,000. This rental is 25 per
cent more than was paid for tho
hint ten years. The edifice was
built by Alexander T. Stewart, who
intended it for a woman's hotel. It
has been a quietly fashionable hoj-
telry for a number of years.
