Chairman Dixon was authorized to
appoint a committee of three to con-
fer with the presidents of the sev-
eral associations which are to be rep-
resented here and to outline a ten-
tative program for the general meet-
ing. The local committees and oth-
ers interested will hold a second
meeting at the Chamber of Com-
merce rooms tomorrow afternoon
at 3 o'clock to conclude preliminary
arrangements.
It is the opinion of the local com-
mittee that if this meeting fulfills
the expectations of Judge Kone. who
called it, and of the Houston-Galves-
ton district orchard, garden and
land men who inspired the call, it
will prove to be one of the most
important conventions, in its ulti-
mate results, ever held in this sec-

Kansas City, Mo., April IS.—Kan-

received the season's first carload
shipment of Texas strawberries. The
berries were in fine condition and lo-

retail prices ranged from 25 to 30

Railroad Activity.
San Antonio, Texas, April 18.—
Not for years has there been such
an era of railroad activity as now
exists in San Antonio. Construction
has begun on two lines to extend
from San Antonio to the fulf coast,
and work will soon be started on a
road to connect Fredericksburg, and
from Laredo, along the Rio Grande,
which will open up much new trade
also on the road extending south
territory.
Bond Issue Successful.
Austin. Texas,... April 18.-—Less
than half as many counties held
elections during March for the pur-
pose of issuing bonds for the im-
provement of public highways as in
February, but the March elections
were carried just as successfully as
those of the preceding month. The
counties of Leon, Grayson, Orange.
Angelina and Bowie voted good-
roads bonds to the amount of $334,-
