Winfield Butler, colored, who
says his real name is John Butler
and that they call him Winfield for
short, is an escaped convict from the
penitentiary, who was arrested on
Wednesday evening on Boyd's farm,
in Austin county, by Deputy She if}'
Laaghammer and lodged in 'jail.
Wmfield's ^whereabouts were dis
closed by another darkey whose ire
he aroused by supplanting him in
the affections of his spouse. Winfield
has his left-eye knocked out and his
right ear chewed off, and would be
recognized in Kamtchkatska on des
cription. He was, however, much
amazed when arrested, and his first
exclamation was "say boss how ye
get me?" Being told by the officer that
he had been furnished with a des
cription of him, the darkey jmilo^n
phicaily observed: "Well I guess Tse
