CASTORIA
for Infants and Children.
IUIOTHERS, Do You Know that Faregoric,
ITI Bateman's Drops, Godfrey's Cordial, many so-called Soothing Syrups, and
most remedies for children are composed of opium or morphine?
Po Ton Know that opium and morphine are stupefying narcotic poisons?
Po Yon Know that in moat countries druggists are not permitted to sell narcotics
without labeling them poisons ?
Po Yon Know that you should not permit any medicine to l>e given your child
unless you or your physician know of what it is composed t
Po Yon Know that Castoria Is a purely vegetable preparation, and that a list of
its ingredients is published with every bottle ?
Po Yon Know that Castoria is the prescription of the famous Dr. Samuel Pitcher.
That it has been in use for nearly thirty years, and that more Castoria is now sold than
of all other remedies for children combined ?
Po Yon Know that the Patent Office Department of the United States, and of
other countries, have issued exclusive right to Dr. pitcher and his assigns to use the word
" Castoria " and its formula, and that to Imitate them is a state prison offense?
Po Yon Know that one of the reasons for granting this government protection
was because Castoria had been proven to be absolutely harmless 7
Po You Know that 35 average doses of Castoria are furnished for 35
cents, or one cent a dose?
Po Von Know that when possessed of this perfect preparation, your children may
be kept well, and that you may have unbroken rest ?
Well, these things are worth knowing. They arc facts.

HE WAS A MAD BIRD.
TI1I1 Sparrow Thought a Joke Wii Belnf
Played Upon Him.
"You never saw such a mail spar-
row in your life as ono I saw ono
spring (laj'," said Van Tope. "This
sparrow was building a nost, and ho
flow down bosido a goods box on the
pavement, whore ho found what ho
probably supposed was a beautiful,
straight pioco of straw. It hapjiencd
to bo a string, howover, and tho oth-
er end of it was caught on a nail in
tho box.
"But tho sparrow wist not that it
was so, and ho grabbod tho end of
tho string and started gayly away.
Of course I10 soon brought up with a
round turn, as tho sailors say, and
found tho pioco of string jorked away
from him. Ho lit 011 tlio ground and
looked around to seowliat impudent
and envious sparrow had tacklcd him
for his string. lie looked as though
he was ready to lick any sparrow in
that block who should set claim to
his string. After standing around
as if daring tho other fellow to knock
a chip off his shoulder, and the otli-
or follow not showing up, he grab-
bed his string and started off. Again
ho was yankod back by the string,
and whon ho lit he"fairly danced
around in his wrath. You could just
imagino him calling that other spar-
row all sorts of names. Ho hopped
around tho goods box to find him
and lit 011 tho edgo to peep in. Aft-
er waiting a reasonable length of
timo for his tormentor he started off
again, and again was thrown down.
"This seomed to get to him. He
was (load sure some othor sparrow
was putting up a game on him, and
you oould imagino him saying that
ho did not caro so much for the dod
rotted string, but that ho hftted to
bo fooled with in this way by some
young bantling of this year's hatch.
Then an idea struck him. Ho flew
off and got Mrs. Sparrow. He told
hor about tho matter, and after giv-
ing her instructions from a neigh-
boring tree he posted himself on a
limb just above tho box and sent
Mrs. Sparrow to dally with tho
string. You could see he wanted the
teaser to play his pranks on the old
lady. He would be watching him
anil then would swoop down and just
thump the feathers off that sparrow.
I could sco him chuckling at the
thought of tho fun he would have.
"Tho old lady started away with
the string, and she, too, was yanked
back. Mr. Sparrow was keeping an
eye upon her, and when ho failed to
seo tho mysterious tormentor appear
ho was obviously very much sur-
prised. Ho got down and walked all
around the string and scratched his
head. Then ho got mad and com-
menced to jaw at Mrs. Sparrow. It
was awfully natural. Sho protested
that it was not her fault. Had he
not himself been treated tho same
way? Well, with that they both
grabbed hold of tho string and start-
ed off, but with no better luck than
before. Then tho sparrow flew at

The Village Blacksmith.
Progress is seldom picturesquo.
Scienco and sentiment disagroo. It
is, however, with a certain lingering
regret that wo stand by and watch
all tho old timo ways and customs
swept away ono by ono. Even tho
blacksmith's forgo, with its glowing
embers and tho comfortable roar of
its huge bellows, will be missed.
But it is doomed now—doomed by
tho success of tho electric bath metal
heating apparatus, which will bring
a bar of iron to whito hoat almost
instantaneously. It is ono of tho
peculiarities of the procossos, and
manifestly ono of its advantages,
that it is ]x>ssiblo to heat n horsoshoo
or rod of iron without affecting any
part of the tongs whioh hold it. It
has been demonstrated in a most
definite manner that tho work can
bo done not only moro quickly but
moro economically than by tho old
fashioned process. This is sufficient.
The villago blacksmith must follow
tho rest and become an electrician.—
