here is what Peter Cooper, who
died with many millions, said of a
newspaper: "In all towns where a
newspaper is published every man
should advertise in it if nothing more
than a card stating his name and busi-
ness he is engaged in. It does not
only pay the advertiser, but lets peo-
ple at a distance know that the towu

to do business." ' •
Sheriff Teague received a telegram
Sunday from Gay Hill to arrest Ex-
press Agent J. M. Coy, on a charge of
embezzlemeut and after a search of
the various dives in the city which he !
had been taking in and spending his j
money with a lavish hand, he was ar-1
rested aud lodged in jail and to-day
(Tuesday) will have a preliminary
trial before Justice Ewing.
Coy left Gay Hill several days ago
and has been here on a drunk ever
since.
He says that he has the money due
the company hid out,as he had no safe
to put it in he could not leave it at the
office.
This story is not credited however
aud the money will have to be
forthcoming to-day or he will doubt-
less go over the road.
Count De Crammont.
In view of the appearance of Otis
Skinner here Thursday night, when
he will present Count De Grammout,
stories of this famous gallant are pe-
culiarly interesting just now, and
among them is told the following:
One day when Charles II dined in
state, he made Grammont remark
that he was served upon the knee, a
mark of respect not common at other
courts. "I thank your majesty for
the explanation," answered Gram-
mont, "I thought they were begging
pardon for giving you so bad a diu-
ner."
Louis XIV, playing at trie trie, dis-
puted a throw with his opponent. The
bystanders were appealed to and
could not decide the cause. It was
referred to Grammont, who from the
farther end of the gallery declared
against the king. "But you have not
heard the case," said Louis. "Oh,
sire," replied the count, "if your
majesty had but a shadow of right,
would these gentlemen have failed to
decide in your favor?"
By the pleasantry of the answer,
this was the same Grammont who
commanded at the siege of a place,
the governor of which capitulated
after a short defeuse, and obtained an
easy capitulation. The governor then
said to Housieur Crammont, "I'll tell
you a secret—that the reason of my
capitulation was, because I was in
want of powder." Honsieur replied,
"And secret for secret—the reason for
my granting you such an easy capitu-
lation was because I was in want of
ball."

Misery After Meals.
The oppressive embargoes levied upon
the inner man by his inveterate enemy, dys-
pepsia, after meals, are lifted and the yoke
cast off by that sovereign medicinal liberator
from bodily ailments, Hosteller's Stomach
Bitters. Heartburn, flatulence, oppretsionat
the pit of the stomach, the presence of bile
where it does not belong, are alike remedied
by this poteut reformer of a disordered con-
dition of the gastric organ and the liver. It
is the prince of tonics and stomachics, in-
vigorating at the same time that it remedies.
Both appetite and sleep are improved by it,
a wineglass before or after meals, and be-
fore reiiring, will be found an efficient resto-
rative of the ability to digest and assimilate-
and to rest tranquilly. Use it for malarial,
kidney and rheumatic trouble and for consti-
oation. For the aged and infirm it is highly
beneficial.
